I awoke with a start feeling very uneasy. The pain from the migraine had dulled while I was asleep, but it still hurt to have light shine in my eyes, so I closed them again. I noticed that I was strapped down to the bed I was laying on.
"She's awake, but it seems like she's still unstable," the doctor I heard briefly before I fell asleep said, "Her brainwaves are showing a strange fluctuation in the area of the hippocampus. It's like she's fighting both the brainwashing and the memories that are being restored. I think it was a good idea to give her that tranquilizer, as it let her rest while in an irritated state."
"Do you think she's going to get better, Dr. Cross?" Henry asked, "She's my dear friend and I don't want her to hurt."
"I'm afraid that I don't know how to answer that, Henry," Dr. Cross said. I suddenly recognized him from my memories as well as the nurse Melody. They treated me when I was sick as a child.
"Dr. Cross, can you let me out?" I said, my mouth speaking the language I had been hearing since I got here, "The light is too bright and I can't shield my eyes."
"She does know our language?" Henry asked incredulously.
"I will, dear Princess," Dr. Cross said as he started loosening the straps that kept me on the bed. When my arms were loose, I covered my eyes with my hands.
"So, do you know anything about the Daring brothers?" I asked. Silence. "They raised me as their son, and I believe they were my kidnappers. But why would they raise me as their son?"
"Our species is known for looking androgynous," Dr. Cross said, "And aside from the Queen, no one is allowed to have long hair, as it symbolizes power and royalty."
"But why do the Queen and I have human colored hair while everyone else doesn't?" I asked.
"Royalty is born with brown hair," Dr. Cross said, "Due to the fact that Royalty having a divine presence. The brighter the color, the lower your rank."
"And who is my Father?" I asked. Henry chuckled, but Dr. Cross gave him a look.
"I am," Dr. Cross said, "But I cannot be King due to my inferior orange hair. That and your Mother doesn't care for me like she used to."
"Do I have any siblings?" I asked.
"Unfortunately, you do not," Dr. Cross said, "But I always wanted another one."
"Why don't you go ask?" I asked, "It won't hurt."
"Your Mother probably won't allow me into her room until she knows that she can see you," Dr. Cross said.
"She must've been really upset when I got kidnapped," I said.
"Of course, I think we all were," Dr. Cross said, "Are your memories coming back, Viktorea?"
"I don't know for certain," I said, "But things are starting to make sense."
"When you feel better, why don't you go for a tour of the ship with Henry?" Dr. Cross said. I lifted my one arm to see that Henry was blushing.
"She probably doesn't want to," Henry said.
"I really don't care," I said, "I just don't like the feeling this headache is giving me."
"Do you want some gumdrops?" Dr. Cross asked.
"Why gumdrops?" I asked.
"For your headache," Dr. Cross said.
"Is it medicine?" I asked.
"Of course," Dr. Cross said.
"I'll take it," I said. Dr. Cross went, grabbed something, and placed it in my hand. I looked at it, it was a gumdrop, like I had on earth. I ate it, but instead of tasting like a gumdrop it had a strange flavor, like a lemon meringue pie with a bit of salmon in it. I still ate the whole thing.
Next thing I knew, I was having a dream where I was taking a trip down memory lane and I had someone point out which memories were false and which ones were true. A lot more of my memories were false than I thought they were. Then, after all the memories were fixed, the person changed into a two headed monster with four arms and the scenery changed from a path of many frames to a dark purple place dripping with goo.
I awoke with a start, my body trembling as I recalled how the person suddenly became a monster. I looked over to see my Father, Dr. Cross, fiddling with something. His hair was orange like he said it was.
"Father," I said, "What in the nine trillion planets was in that gumdrop you gave me?" Father turned and smiled at me.
"It was a brainwash-be-gone type drug," Father said, "It was a stronger one because you went through 15 years of it, but you no longer have the headache, correct?" I realized that he was right, I didn't have a migraine anymore.
"That's true," I said, "Thank you, Father."
"I'm glad it worked," Father said.
