“She has to be a Swan conjure,” Michael said. I knew the consequences of finding the Swan conjure. I had to kill her. Some part of me, deep inside, knew something was wrong. It knew that maybe, somehow, she was just an average person. I swallowed hard. “We need more evidence. We don’t know if-” “What don’t we know?! All of the signs add up!” Michael’s voice echoed through the room as he cut me off. He exhaled and started to pace. “Fine. If this princess of yours indeed isn't a Swan conjure, her life can be spared. But if she is a Swan conjure, then you have to do whatever it takes to end her.” Michael stormed out of the room in a frustrated manner. I sighed and plopped myself onto my bed. I needed to focus on the more important things. I couldn’t let myself get distracted by that weird girl.
Come to think of it- why wasn’t I able to get into her mind? I can get into anyone’s mind without any trouble. Even Michael’s sometimes. Was there some kind of brain disorder that kept me from leaking in? I decided to go out and take a walk. The forest where we lived near was dark and hummed with noises too quiet for the average person to hear. I put my hands in my pockets as I walked through the forest. It seemed like forever that I was left alone, walking with nothing but my thoughts. A noise of a branch cracking on the ground caught my attention. I froze and looked toward the noise. A dim light rose from the bushes. I realized that I knew where I was. Michael had brought me here before. He told me that this spot was normally off-limits. I knew what it was.

I stepped forward slowly, taking out the sharp pocket knife for defense. There the portal stood. Its golden light shined miraculously bright. A noise enclosed behind me. I quickly turned around and slashed out my knife. A glorious deer gazed at me with beady eyes. I lowered my knife and placed it back into my pocket. I looked back towards the portal. I sighed and started to walk back home. Suddenly, a great push of wind escalated from the portal and I got launched forward into the air and onto the ground. My breathing heaved as I looked behind me. Instead of the golden color that it was before, the portal was now dark violet. I got up and walked towards it. I touched my finger at the entrance of the portal. It backfired and I got launched again. Before, when I came here with Michael, we were both able to enter the portal. Suddenly, another noise came from behind me. I whipped around my knife in hand. It was the girl from before. The girl in my class. The one whose mind I couldn’t enter. She screamed and flailed her hands in the air, and with it, I got launched into a tree. I groaned as the girl stood, only a few feet ahead of me.
