When I woke up, the first thing I could register was the cold table underneath my body. I was confused and disoriented and there were strange sounds and smells surrounding me. My eyesight was blurry and I was trying desperately to blink away the cloud that seemed to block my vision.
The last thing I remember was creating a video log before the Pandoran war; as instructed by the higher ups just in case I........ Surely I didn't die during the war. That couldn't be the case. The more I thought about it the faster my heart began to beat.
"Her heart rate is increasing." I heard someone announce.
"Calm down medic, if you're panicking now just wait til you get a look of that mug in the mirror." a familiar voice said chuckling.
"Wainfleet?" I let out before I even have time to think about it. I would recognize that smug voice anywhere. He insisted on calling me medic as if it was in insult. I try to get up and move but I am told by Wainfleet to take it easy and wait until the 'Science geeks' are done examining me.
The scientists look down at me asking me questions like "How do you feel?"; "Can you hear this?" *snap* ; "How many fingers am I holding up?". It took a few more moments before I was coherent. I followed along with all of their questions and orders until they gave me the go ahead to stand up. The room we were in was sterile and bland with shades of white and grey all over the place.
My attention is immediately drawn to the window because where my reflection is supposed to be, I see something that is not me. It's one of them. A Na'vi, but with my features. My long black hair, my lips, my nose and most of my face identical to how I remember it. It scared me to see my eyes, my eyes that were once a dark shade of brown are now yellow, maybe even a gold pigmentation if you studied it closely enough.
"So I really did die." I whisper to myself in disbelief. Now what I am looking at is me, but also someone, or something else.
"Hey don't think too hard about it, you'll get a debrief here soon explaining everything." I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I turn around to see Lyle Wainfleet, but just like me he's something else. Not truly himself. A large blue humanoid with Wainfleets features.
I nod and calm myself before following orders to get dressed and report to meet with Colonel Quaritch.
After I put on all of my gear I walk down the large metal halls to the meeting room. I am greeted by my colleagues. We are all in the same boat with trying to figure out our new bodies and getting used to each others other-worldly appearances. During the meeting we are debriefed on our situation and our mission.
Project Phoenix as explained by Colonel Quaritch. We are supposed to rise from the ashes to continue the fight for the prosperity of earth.......Or something. The lab coats used our human DNA and DNA from one of the Indigenous of Pandora to create more Avatar's implanted with our memory before the battle. Our main mission is to capture and end Jake Sully.
Our journey will begin soon as our equipment is done being prepared for us. We will embark on a mission at ground zero to walk as the natives do. Outside of the piece of metal we are currently floating in.
I try to not to over think the details of the situation although they keep crossing my mind. "How is my family on earth." being the biggest question replaying over and over again. Apparently it has been about 15 years since I was last alive so many things have probably changed.
Before I could finish my train of thought we are told to load into a helicopter and prepare to to begin the search for our target. A small twinge of fear shoots across my body but I learned in training long ago to use the fear as fuel. I have a mission to complete for the sake of my earth and my family.
~
"Move out!" Quaritch yells over the helicopter blades as we exit the aircraft into the forests of Pandora. I clutch my weapon and crouch as we navigate through the lush greenery. If I wasn't so focused on not dying I would probably be more appreciative of the beautiful environment. It was nothing like the grey and wilted landscape of the planet we come from. Some of these colors I haven't even seen before but in photos and videos.
We come across a few small animals that are determined to be of no threat. They leave us alone after quick investigation when they perceive us as Native. I look up to the huge trees reaching towards the sky and wrapped in ornate vines. The forrest ground is a confetti of plants that are colors and shapes you could only dream of. The group stops moving and that breaks me out of my daydream.
"Group one with me, group two follow Mansk. Tight formation." Quaritch communicates through our ear pieces. 6 soldiers in group one go to investigate the base where Jake sully controlled his avatar during the Pandoran war. 4 soldiers Me, Mansk, Walker, and Fike in group two go to ID the surrounding the area and find any possible traces of Sully's camp. In the debrief I was placed in group two because of my slight knowledge of Pandoran flora and fauna.
When I was first brought to Pandora I was caught in a rabbit hole of learning the foreign landscape. It was interesting to me so I listened in and had lunch with the 'science geeks' (as Quaritch likes to call them) sometimes. But that story is for another time as soon we get message that group one captured some Natives and we are told to head back in the direction we came from.
I look at my fellow soldiers and Mansk nods his head as we trek back the way we entered from.
"We're under attack, need back up and extraction as soon as possible!" We hear Quaritch though our ear pieces with noises of shooting and combat in the background. Before I know it we are in a full sprint as rain begins to pour on us. We ventured about 7 miles or so from the site group one is at and I know I am not the only one regretting this choice now.
"AGHHH" I hear a scream before a loud thud next to me. I look to see Mansk on the ground with a long arrow through his chest.
"Weapons up, we're under attack!" I yell to the remaining 2 remaining soldiers with me.
"Cover me!" They shoot into the trees where there are now natives shooting right back at us. I quickly check Mansk who was hit right though his heart and is long gone now.
"Damn it." I mutter to myself before getting up and taking a quick look to see there were probably 5-6 Na'vi surrounding us in the trees.
"Let's Move!" I yell as we run through the forrest. This was not good. The natives had the height advantage on us and it would be a miracle if we could reach group one in time.
It was dark now, nothing but the fluorescent forrest floor lighting up as our steps hit the ground. I look back to see no one is running with me.
"Walker! Fike! Do you read me?" I yell into my earpiece while running as fast as I could.
No answer.
I jump over large roots and duck under branches narrowly dodging incoming arrows. But before I know it I hit the ground with a loud thud. My gun falls a few feet away from me and I cant move my legs.
They are tied up with what looks like a long vine with heavy rocks on either end. I turn over quickly to try and untie the vine but before I could pull out my pocket knife; a long and sharp arrow brushes my forehead as I look up to see a Native looking at me with disgust in his eyes. He's tall and lean, characteristics normal to the Na'vi. He has a strong features and long hair in braids mostly pulled back but with two pieces hanging off to the sides of his face. I put my hands up. I'm so screwed.
Before I could say or do anything else something hard hits my head. The last thing I see is the native man standing over me before the world goes dark.

Song for this chapter: Black Out Days (Sped Up) by Phantogram, Speed Radio & Esteve
Hey everyone what do you think about the first chapter? Let me know and look out for chapter 2 coming out soon!
I tried to stick as closely to the canon story as possible but of course some things will be different with new characters and things like that. I have done a bit of studying of the Avatar universe so hopefully I can do it justice. If there are any details that are wrong or any typos bear with me I am editing as I go. :)
