Lena walked into her English class on Monday morning feeling nervous but excited. Mrs. Thompson had just announced a new project, and Lena had a feeling that this could be her chance to finally talk to Alex.
Alex had been in her classes for years, but Lena had never had the courage to approach him. He was always surrounded by friends, and she felt like she would just be another face in the crowd.
But today, fate seemed to be on her side. Mrs. Thompson paired Lena with Alex for the project, and Lena couldn't believe her luck.
"Hi," she said, smiling at him. "I'm Lena."
"Hey," he replied, grinning back at her. "I'm Alex."
As they sat down at a table in the back of the classroom, Lena's heart was pounding in her chest. She couldn't believe that she was finally talking to the guy she had been crushing on for years.
"So, what do you want to do for the project?" Alex asked, looking at her expectantly.
Lena cleared her throat. "Well, I was thinking that we could write a paper on the history of Columbine. I mean, we're both from here, and it's such an important part of our community."
Alex nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, that could work. But we should probably do some research first."
Lena felt a surge of excitement as they began to brainstorm ideas together. For the rest of the class period, they worked together, bouncing ideas off each other and laughing at their own jokes.
As the bell rang and they packed up their things, Lena couldn't help feeling like something had shifted between them. Maybe it was just wishful thinking, but she felt like there was a connection there, something more than just two classmates working on a project together.
As they walked out of the classroom, Lena turned to Alex. "Hey, do you want to meet up later to work on the project?"
Alex grinned. "Sure, that sounds good to me."
Lena felt a thrill of excitement as she walked down the hall, already looking forward to their next meeting. Maybe this project would be the start of something more.
