I may have fucked up this time.
I glanced around the grand room once more, taking in the evidently expensive decorations and the thousand and one paintings of a tall, dark man in his late twenties. A Fernandez something guy, one of the most brutal Dons of the country, the boss of La Hermandad. What sort of a name is that anyway?

The room was filled with high profile criminals with this Fernandez guy as the kingpin. He was a drug lord, insanely rich, dabbled in all sorts. From illegal gambling to fraud to prostitution, he was a criminal through and through. The world should thank me for killing him. Probably not the best person to say that, seeing as I also illegally gambled, faked identities and could probably pass as a prostitute, but a job's a job.
And my job right now was to kill this asshole, so I should probably tend to the mission at hand.
I rose from my seat and smoothed out my dress as I edged my way through the crowd. All I had to do now was make it to the door and this'll all be done. Or so I thought.

I could hear doors and heavy footsteps from above ー shouts and footsteps belonging to the gangsters I suppose. I quickened my pace and was about halfway through the lobby when the heavy footsteps came clattering down the steps. There was a crowd-wide gasp following the dozen armed men that filed into the room.
Well shit.

"The Don has been killed,"
they said ominously, pointedly glaring at the crowd, seeming as though they were looking for the killer. I made a botched attempt at stealing away from the room as it was pretty obvious I was gonna get caught. I'd managed to get in without arousing much suspicion but perhaps they'd be wiser now, even if I was supposed to be undercover. I was famous among these assholes after all. I felt half a dozen sharp glares land on me and knew I had to get out of there. Fast.

"Jesus, curse this dress," I heard myself mutter bitterly. I kinda blew my cover and was now being chased down by multiple armed thugs up some narrow steps. Yep. Sadie Kobach. 'Professional' assassin and UIA agent, currently screwed.

"¡Seguir corriendo!" one of them shouted. "¡Ya no hay adónde huir!"
111Please respect copyright.PENANAUgl5OMD2Ba
Well fuck. Corriendo, run...running? Hay adónde huir, nowhere to run. According to them, I was screwed. My Spanish wasn't perfect, but I understood enough to know that luck was not on my side.

I was greeted by nothing but a balcony overlooking the huge garden at the top of the steps. There was a room to the right and a hallway, maybe I could go there?

A quick glance back was enough to convince me to make my choice.

I tore off my shoes and darted towards the railings, nimbly climbing them despite my dress.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAeXwzF2tJHj
"Bye boys!" I yelled triumphantly, leaping off the railings and neatly landing on a terrace not too far off. By neatly I mean I crashed onto the ground and most likely bruised my leg, but if it works it works. Clearly this annoyed them big time.

"¡Mierda! ¡Tú, dile a los demás que se ella está escapando! Se ella correrá hacia la entrada. Y en cuanto al resto de ustedes," I heard one of the men bellow at his teammates, "¡id tras ella!"

There was a deafening sound of bullets being fired and people yelling out orders that would be enough to rattle an average person, but I was no average person. My little parkour expedition had me out of the garden in a matter of seconds. I didn't exactly have a choice, did I? I vaulted myself over the fencing and ran towards my getaway car at full speed.

"Come on, faster you idiot!" Kylie yelled at me. Kylie, a short woman with an even shorter temper and half-shaven purple hair ー bright, unlike my decisions as of now. She was new to our team and was assigned to assist me for her first mission here as my getaway driver since she excelled in defensive driving, given her military background. First mission and she's already screwed.

"Goddamnit, are they after us now?" my partner, Ray, complained. I ignored them both. I jumped into the backseat and barked at Kylie to start the car as I cocked my gun and instructed Ray to do the same.

"Should've blown the place up while you had the chance," Ray said, smirking at me in his usual tedious way. He was good fun though, all things considered. He flashed a grin, dusky skin making way for his pearly whites. Ray was a ladies man, pursued and admired. Just like me.

"You could help do so next time, pyromaniac," I replied, taking aim and pulling the trigger.

"Holy shit!" Kylie exclaimed as the pursuers' car rammed itself onto ours. The car swerved and almost crashed with the force. I was not happy.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAb2iMBm5A58
"Watch where you're fucking going Ky!" I yelled from the back. I wasn't gonna have us killed from a car crash after that stunt I just pulled.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAb3CqxZYvfs
"I'm trying!" Kylie yelled back, just about managing to steady the car and swiftly avoid a passing truck. The driver's window exploded, showering broken glass everywhere.

Son of a bitch.

I aimed at the pursuers and started firing relentlessly, trying to get them off our tracks. We hadn't even recovered from the last round of broken glass when the rear window shattered and something grazed my shoulder. It could've been the glass, it could've been a bullet, I don't know. Despite my earlier indifference, that scared the shit out of me and I ducked immediately. Bullets whizzed by as we exchanged gunfire and I felt a grin creeping onto my face as the pursuers' car swivelled out of control and crashed headfirst into a lamppost. Got em.

"Kylie, pick up the pace and get us out of here fast," I said, putting my gun down precariously on the car seat, watching as it wobbled alarmingly as the car picked up speed.

"Nobody wants to get caught up with the police."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAOtcD77BVkT
"We wouldn't be if you had left sooner and didn't blow your cover." Kylie pointed out snippily, tightening her grip on the very fucked up steering wheel. God knows how boss will react. Still, I was the favourite, I'd manage.

"Just shut up and drive, will you?" I muttered, brushing pieces of glass and debris off my dress with some spare cloth.

Ray shook his head, shrugging off bits of glass from his curly hair. "Pretty neat job back there, Sadie," he mentioned. "Minus the botched escape."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAMgPIUIEV5o
"I swear y'all are just intent on irritating me," I retorted.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAxnzljZCV8s
This was definitely on purpose, there was no denying it. Ray responded with a chuckle, provoking me immensely. If he keeps this up I'll be ready to bite his dick off. I couldn't help but point out he couldn't have done a better job.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAoS1mgm4t2T
"I'd manage, I'm sure."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAd43uV2P26P
"Please. You couldn't have even gotten in, let alone poison his drink."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAFXR1n4SriG
"We get it, you're Miss Charm and Adoration, now stop your bickering and let me drive."

"Finally," I whined, sighing in an exasperated tone as I entered the code and sunk down on the leather seats in the lounge.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAczhrDZTUrS
"All I want to do now is sleep."
111Please respect copyright.PENANA6yuOnRv4oU
"You can't, Sadie, you know that," Ray said, entering the room and tossing his duffle in the corner. "We have to do the report and send it in, plus we have to check out your cuts."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAU8IunIFHES
"Can't we wait till tomorrow? I'm exhausted." I wasn't particularly inclined to turn in our reports. The jet lag was killing me, given I didn't get any decent sleep in Mexico and barely any time to recover before flying back. Ah, the glamorous life of an agent. We had training tomorrow at nine and I just wanted some rest, maybe a sip of whiskey?
111Please respect copyright.PENANABFYRduHkAe
I got up to pour myself a glass when Ray stopped me short, holding onto my arm.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAXtHP5aVkUn
"We need to check out your cuts Sadie, don't be difficult," he said sternly. Tch. As if he can get to me that way.
111Please respect copyright.PENANATxApBWctq1
"And why?" I responded, prising my arm away and egging him on for all I was worth.
111Please respect copyright.PENANA7cUdGy6EQd
"Because the glass'll get embedded in your skin, moron." Fair enough.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAm6LIHuK6oK
"I'll just clean it myself, it's just a graze," I said breezily. I didn't need him helping me out. I poured the Patron into two glasses lined with salt and lime and handed him one, we deserved it anyway.
111Please respect copyright.PENANA9nqepywBAT
"Why don't you just let me do it?" he inquired, taking the glass from me and bringing it to his lips.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAuX32kqy4VN
"Because I don't want you to," I responded.
111Please respect copyright.PENANA84Abtw9Mfa
"But why?" He was really starting to annoy me now. I ignored him and set my glass on the table. He always had to be the dad friend, which was incredibly weird. He was incredibly weird, full stop.
111Please respect copyright.PENANATnVKn2tyd9
I turned on the tap, drenching a towel in water to clean the dried blood off my upper arms. That broken glass got me good. Ray appeared behind me all of a sudden and took the towel from my hand, cleaning the cuts himself.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAm1zi0FZWrB
"Get off, Peralta, I don't need your damn help- ow fuck," I complained, trying to pull away and rubbing the scrapes by accident instead.
111Please respect copyright.PENANAzBZWPVQPXq
"See," said Ray, "told you."
111Please respect copyright.PENANAmJmqEamWZS
"Oh shut it," I said, settling down at last and letting him clean it for me. It stung, but nothing I couldn't handle. Most likely everything would ache once I wake up, but that's tomorrow's bullshit.
