~The Kinder transport (German for "children's transport") was an organized rescue effort of children (but not their parents) from Nazi-controlled territory that took place in 1938-1939 during the nine months prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.
~The first Kinder transport was organized and masterminded by Florence Nankivell. She spent a week in Berlin, hassled by the Nazi police, organizing the children. The train left Berlin on 1 December 1938, and arrived in Harwich on 2 December with 196 children.
