Chapter 1: Our Sciency Beginning
I'm Aileen, and I share a house with my beloved Ralph, as well as our two housemates, Rose and Colin. We absolutely despise winter. Despite Sparkstown being a bustling town with all its shops, the cold is our common enemy, and we hate it passionately.
But we've managed to endure the winters here throughout the years. We all share a deep love for science fiction, the world of sci-fi, the likes of Star Wars and Star Trek, captivate us. Often, I daydream about the possibility of Ralph and me inventing some kind of scientific contraption to banish winter's chill once and for all. It's a dream I can't help but entertain. After all, who's to say what's impossible?
Though Colin and Rose consider me a bit crazy for indulging in too many movies, I can't blame them. I do have a penchant for watching a lot of sci-fi. But I'm unapologetic about my love for science fiction and imagination; nothing can change that.
Anyway, I wake up one morning and notice Ralph, shirtless, beside me. He's incredibly handsome, cute, and beautiful. It's truly a blessing that we crossed paths during our university days when we both studied chemistry, a subject close to our hearts.
As I watch Ralph sleep, admiring the cuteness on his face, I can't help but feel a deep affection for him. We're like star-crossed lovers, similar to Romeo and Juliet, except for the fact that my parents don't like him due to their aversion to science—a reason I find quite absurd.
I gently tap him on the back, and he awakens. He tilts his head, smiling at me, and says, "Wow... hello. Hello, you. How is my girl today?" I smile back, touched by his affection, and reply, "Oh, I am better now that you're awake. You sleep so long. I want to hang out with you, babe. Rose and Colin are already awake."
He responds, "I am cold, darling, I am cold. Yes, I know I have to tough it out, or... instead, I want to snuggle with you." In a flirtatious manner, he pulls me back into bed, and we share a sweet moment.
Chapter 2: He Actually Believes Me
Ralph is in his workshop. After enjoying a meal together, I head to his workshed once I finish washing the dishes.
I find myself at the workshed, and I approach Ralph, who is hard at work on some scientific projects. I smile at him, and he glances up, returning the smile. I ask, "So, babe, what are you working on?"
With a grin, he replies, "I'm working on some equipment. You know that crazy idea you had about getting rid of winter? Well, how about we put our scientific minds together and create a machine to banish winter?"
I laugh it off, still surprised that he's taking my idea seriously, and say, "Man, you know I was kidding, Ralph. You know I am. You know I am..."
But to my astonishment, he looks at me with determination and says, "But we're scientists, innovators; it's what we do." He places his hand on my shoulder and continues, "Let's get working, babe. Let's get working."
He even starts to sing, "Let's get working, babe. I must say you're crazy, but so am I. We're scientists, let's cure cancer together one day, but for now, let's kill winter, babe."
I'm impressed and smile at him, saying, "Well, I am impressed by you and my own intelligence. It's amazing."
He smiles back and says, "We can't call it amazing yet until it works. Let's see it in action." I watch as Ralph prepares the thermal heating machine we created together within minutes. I look at him with anticipation.
He pulls me close and says, "So, darling, I present to you... the winter-killing machine." I'm amazed and express my admiration, "Well, I'm impressed, by you and our collective intelligence. It's amazing."
Ralph activates the machine, pointing it at the sky to attract the sun's warmth. The machine generates a bright, warm light that quickly spreads across the sky, and within seconds, the entire area warms up. It worked, and everyone celebrates in delight.
"Darn, it actually worked! I'm shocked," I exclaim, and Ralph and I embrace, knowing that our scientific dream is becoming a reality.
