Just as I was about to fall asleep, the alarm in the control room went of causing me to bolt upright in bed. I jump out of bed and hurriedly grab a jacket. I run to the control room as fast as I can.
When I arrive, Sona is waiting for me. " We just received and SOS message," she said. I quickly connect to the call. at first all we could hear was a crackle but then i could hear a male voice.
" Can.... Anyone..Me," said the voice. I tweaked the antenna to see if I could make the transmission more clear. Finally, I could understand what he was saying. " I'm going down on the planet calypso," said the voice. " I was attacked by Hydra. " He continued, obviously panicked." Please.. help"
Suddenly, the transmission went dead and I couldn't hear anymore. I looked at Sona. she knew what that look meant. Hydra was far too close for comfort. I start typing furiously on the control panel. The transmission went out approximately one hundred feet above the planet's surface.
The coordinates were approximately 5 miles away from the base. Even if that man had survived, he would be dead soon without oxygen. We had to go outside to save him. I turn to Sona. She sighs. " Fine" she says. " I know there is no way to change your mind."
We quickly go suited up. As we got dressed, I contemplated the reason I wanted to save him. Maybe it was because i was lonely or maybe I felt bad that he too had almost been killed by Hydra. Whatever it was, a strange feeling told me to help him.
I grab a first aid kit and two extra gas masks, just in case. then Sona and I raced to the hangar and jumped onto two dune bikes and with a final nod from Sona we drove into the sandstorm and into the night
We rode is silence, struggling to make headway against the sandstorm. Wind and sand whipped around us, making it difficult to see more than a foot in front of us. Luckily, we had brought our sonar with us so we knew where everything was around us.
I was glad that the dune bikes had all terrain wheels because otherwise we would have gotten stuck in the sand really quickly. we continued the drive and i just hoped we would make it in time.
Finally, after what seemed an eternity, we saw the tip of a spaceship as we crested another dune. In front of us lay a beautiful silver ship. I recognized the crest on the side. It was a ship from the kingdom of the Drakarians who lived on the planet Drekatis.
They were known as the dragon born, as they have a few features that resembled dragons, such as having huge wings and pointed canines. i recalled from my lessons with Sona that they were proud people and greatly aided my people whenever they could.
Sona nudges me and I realize I had been lost in thought. This was not the time to get distracted. We needed to hurry if we were to have any chance of saving the man.
We rode around the ship to the other side, which was against the wind and sand so that the bikes wouldn't get buried by the sand. we than ran, or at least tried to, towards the other side where there was a service hatch. Luckily, the ship had maintained its shape although it had a lot of big dents in it.
We climbed through the service hatch and quickly shut it so no sand could get inside. The ship had landed o its side at an angel, meaning we had to climb and shimmy towards the control room.
Finally, we made it to the control room. There, in the captain's chair, was a man. He was slightly slumped over towards the side and he was out cold, but he was still breathing. Luckily, the life support on the ship hadn't been damaged.
i grab one of the gas masks and strap it securely to his face, then I strap on a pair of googles so that no sand gets into his eyes. i use the first aid kit to add a heart and breathing monitor to keep track of his condition. Once I finish taping down his clothes to cover his injuries, Sona and i lift him my grabbing him by his shoulders and ankles so that we can carry him back to the bikes.
Sona manages to lift him effortlessly while i struggle to carry him to the service hatch with the incline working against me as i try not to drop him. Finally, we reach the bikes.
Using a rope, I tie the man to myself so that he doesn't fall off, making sure that his clothes mask and googles are secure. Once I'm satisfied, I nod at Sona, who nods back and we begin the drive home
