“You’re an idiot,” Bass stepped onto the porch, calling after Dripp. “A low-key, stupid, good-nothing idiot.”
Dripp froze, turning around to face his challenging Kipaté.
“this is what you call being an Oputant?” Bass continued with no hesitation. “What kind of courage is this? Running away?”
Dripp held his arms out. “What do you want me to do?”
Bass took a deep breath in frustration. “Don’t walk away! Dripp, look.” He stepped off the porch and marched up to Dripp’s face. “We all have our loves stolen from us when this war began. Yours is right here, and you’re walking away.”
Dripp sighed. “I think that ship has long sailed. She’ll never forgive me.”
”You never know till you try.”
