I I woke up and walked into the kitchen thinking the stress from the previous evening was long over.
Toast stopped me before the cupboards and tossed me an apple from the decapitated basket on the counter. “Come on. Everyone’s in the command room. Dripp’s pretty mad.”
I swallowed and followed him into the command room, finding everyone in a circle around the map table in dead silence. Everyone turne to stare as I walked in.
Dripp gets straight to the point. When you were in the engine building, how many Avoteers did you find?”
I thought back to the previous nights mission. “None,” I answered with confidence. “Toast hacked their command system right?”
Dripp’s frustration grew. He took off his hat and ran his hand through his hair. “You have got to be kidding me. Flame, there Gould have been unmoving Avoteers everywhere! You’re telling me it was empty?”
”I was so focused on planting the bomb I didn’t notice!” I looked at my brothers for help, but they only shrugged, agreeing with Dripp.
”The relocated Engine Commands.” Dripp took a deep breath, looking back down at the map.
Doe pointed to a warehouse about half a days walk from our camp. “This has to be it. Only unidentified building. And close enough to their Headquarters. This as to be it.”
Everyone else nodded, agreeing with her.
”Alright. We are already two says behind on this mission. We leave tonight.” Dripp looked around the group addressing everyone on their roles.
”Toast. Close enough to hack but stay your distance. Doe, you and Bread are planting the bomb. Stay together and go quick. Bass, south boarder. Jam, east boarder. Chez, west boarder. Use the call if you see anything.”
”What about me?” I cut in.
Dripp turned to me. “North boarder.”
”But nothing comes from the north boarder,” I complained.
”Exactly. And you’ll be with me. Less chances for you to be stupid. And if you continue to talk ac to me like that I’ll send you back to training. Understood, Kipaté?
I gritted my teeth, making eye contact with him over the table. “Understood.”
“Good.” He looked me up and down before addressing the group. “Everyone get prepared. We leave at sundown.”
