It’s only 8:30 PM, and everyone’s already drunk. Almost all of the guys are sleazily dancing on the dance floor, and Jackie’s passed out cold, drooling, on the table when her boyfriend walks out of the bathroom, cleaning his mouth from vomit. The room is shaking with bass boosted music, bright disco lights blinding everyone in sight. Even at this hour, the place is brimming with people. So much for the ‘super low-key’ thing Jackie was talking about.
As I look at her, passed out on the dirty table, I fail to understand how someone can have the willpower to drink so much. I’ve only had one, and I'm even a little tipsy. Luckily, I have the foresight not to drink anything too strong, because I have to attend an auction tomorrow for another ‘Adventure’; hopefully not one that ends up with me jumping off a rooftop this time, though. The only other person here who’s not drunk is Levi.
He hasn’t had anything to drink, actually. He sits across from me on the other side of the roundabout booth. I’m amazed at his self restraint; he’s been offered multiple drinks by many beautiful women, and still hasn’t had anything. But it’s not just that, I think as I glance at him, He looks uncomfortable. Grey lines surround his eyes, tenseness expressed in every part of his body. Even now, though, he looks gorgeous. Or maybe that’s just the liquor talking. 24Please respect copyright.PENANAcDC9vlg6yk
The neon lights frame his face, highlighting his jawline and coloring the left side of his face. His hair parts the light, and his eyes shimmer between the contrast of the bright lights and the shadow of his hair. A woman across the place stares at him so hard I think she might burn a hole through his face. And… is she… drooling?? …We’re gonna need a clean-up on aisle two.
When Derrick finally stumbles over to the booth, he lifts Jackie's head up, which earns him a sleazy smile. He turns to me and Levi, who are the only people still sober, and;-- subsequently, the only people still at the booth, and starts to speak. “I’m gonna take her home,” he says, words slurring. I open my mouth to object, but he cuts me off. “We’re taking a taxi; I'm not going to drive like this– don’t worry.” oh. I simply shrug and watch him easily heave Jackie over his shoulder. She waves at me drunkenly from behind as they walk out the door.
About fifteen minutes later, when I start thinking about leaving, it hits me. I don’t have a way to get home. I’m out of money, and, as a result, exhausted of all possible transportation methods. On top of it, the nearest bus stop is a twenty minute drive away, and the last bus leaves– I check my phone– in three minutes. Greatttttttt.
I’m gonna die here. This is where I’m going to stay for all eternity; in a dirty club, full of disgusting people grinding against each other. Absolutely not.
When Levi gets up to leave, I turn to him with the most pitiful face I can muster. You’re my only hope. He raises an eyebrow, a smile tugging at his lips. I try to communicate my situation to him with my eyes, but it doesn’t work. He almost turns to leave when I finally tell him. “I don’t have any way to get home…” God, I'm pathetic. I hate myself right now, but I stay calm. Mostly. “Okay, okay, nevermind,” I start, placing my head in my hands. I really will die here. Just bury me now, please. I accept my fate. “I’ll drive you,” He suddenly says, twirling his car keys on his index finger and catching it in his hand. Wow, he’s even mastered the art of key-twirling. Such an eligible bachelor, I think with zero sincerity.
I cast him a thankful look before following him out the door like a lost duckling.
