One day, Me and my best friend since forever, Mina, go to a trip with our families to one of our parents old house. Near our house was a small forest. The forest was quite popular among the locals due to the creepy view it has at night. Some people who live nearby even said they heard weird noises in the middle of the night, coming from the forest and sometimes they even heard people screaming.
We loved this kind of stories but hearing this ones, we started doubting them. So as fast as the night came, we decided to stay up all night and see if the stories were real.
But as we expected, nothing happened. The sun starts to rise and the we finally can go to sleep.
Luckily we didn’t sleep too much and by the time we woke up, the sun was still up, shinning bright.
I was the first one to get out of bed and go to the kitchen to prepare something to eat for both of us. I don’t know how to cook properly but at least I’m a natural disaster like Mina was.
As I entered the kitchen, a sticky note attached to the fridge caught my eyes. I immediately recognized my mom hand writing.
“We heard a storm is going to come soon in our area so we decided to go and buy more food to make sure we wil have enough. Please try not to mess up the entire house. We’ll be back soon. Love you!”. My mother knows us so well.
Soon after i started cooking, Mina came into the kitchen too. We both sat at the table. Usually when we are eating, we don’t talk. Something our parents taught us since we were little. But then our parents weren’t around and one single thought was running thru both of our heads, bothering us enough to broke the rule. Not that it was too important anyway.
With a frown on my face, I was the first one to break the silence.
“So…”I started. “Now what?” I asked Mina who was calmly eating her food.
Mina raised her head, looking at me in confusion.
“Now what, what ?” Mina repeated.
“Yeah, I mean, what about that forest? And the stories?” I said looking straight at Mina. “We stayed up all night and nothing happened. However, I’m still curious about it.” I wasn’t sure if I still believed that something is really happening in that forest but I really want to find out what’s going on.
“Honestly, I have no idea what to say. Maybe it’s just a myth or people just invented those things to scary other people” Mina said. I think she thought at a lot of possibilities, yes, but she also didn’t pay too much attention to the situation.
“That’s also true, you have a point but still, what about the ones who said they heard weird noises… they are as old as our grandparents. Why would they lie to us? Don’t they have anything better to do with the rest of their lives?” I said crossing my arms on the table, still looking at Mina.
“Hey, I know all those stories sounds crazy as fuck, that’s why we have to stay rational and not jump over to conclusions yet” I nodded signaling her to continue.
“Did you notice that more than half of the people here have animals? Maybe the animals did the weird sounds? Animals always make weird sounds when you least expect.”Mina took a pause to think. “Or maybe, the ones who said they heard things also heard it from others… Maybe a crazy person spread such informations.” Mina explained her point of view. I did agree with her. Everything she said was more logical and it sounded more earthly and credible beside what I thought.
Minutes later, after cleaning in silence , the damn thought keept popping out in my head. I keept thinking and thinking until I came to a conclusion.
“Let’s go that damn forest, let’s see what’s inside” I stated confidently.
Mina’s eyes widened, mouth hanging open “You want to explore that thing? She said shocked. I nodded and continued. “They say it’s not that big anyway. What do we have to loose ? We’re only looking around for a little and then be back before our parents return.”
“First of all, that’s what she said, second of all, you’re crazy”. Mina seemed to think for a moment, and after… she smirked? Okey? “Fuck it. Let’s do this” She said confidently putting her arms on her hips. Mom style, I swear. I smiled and nodded. It only remains our backpacks and we’re all done. I’m a little nervous though… “Here we go” i whispered a sigh leaving my mouth.
