'Every time I would talk to Adrian, Roman would look at us from his seat at the front of the class. He would turn around all the time and I knew he was growing jealous of Adrian, but I just couldn't help it. I'm too nice for my own good. Alex talked to me on the bus one day when Roman wasn't there and said,
"You like Adrian."
"Pft, no I don't."
"You talk to him all the time and he likes you and you always flirt with each other and you're starting to ignore Roman. Your boyfriend."
"No, I'm not. Adrian's just closer to me so I talk to him more."
This continued for a few weeks, until Roman left for a football tournament in Florida.
Before leaving he told me he loved me of course and gave me a note. Which, mind you, annoyed me a little bit. He told me to focus on school and to not let Adrian, distract me. He just had to add that part right?
Anyway- he left and I have to admit, it was a little odd not seeing him in class all day. Alex and I would call him everyday on the bus ride home afterschool and on some weekends, I called him. I would still talk to Adrian all the time and it didn't change, despite Roman's note. I'm pretty sure everyone could see a huge change. But, I payed no attention to it. Roman would ask Alex all the time through text or something if I was talking to Adrian. And he would get annoyed, every. Single. Time.
Roman came back a week or two later and it was the same thing as it was before. But something else caught my eye that annoyed me so much.
He started talking to Paulina.
Don't get me wrong, Paulina was my best friend and all but, I just got so...jealous every time I looked over and saw them passing a note. I even started paying even more attention to Adrian than usual to make Roman mad. What annoyed me the most was he smiled when he read the note from her. I don't know if Alex noticed or not considering Paulina was his girlfriend.
To this day I don't know what they talked about so much. What made him smile every time he read a note from her. I started thinking he liked her. A lot. But of course, I never mentioned it to anyone because I knew whoever I told would for sure bring up Adrian. That "you're doing the same to him so he can talk to Paulina" so I kept my mouth shut about it.
No matter how much anyone asked me I always denied it. I did not like Adrian Sanchez.
The date was December 21st. The day before we went on Christmas break. We were allowed to move our desks and everything so all of our friends moved our desks and made a table. It was me, Alex, Natalie, Paulina, Roman, and Analise.
There was a setup of 2 desks on each side and two more on the edge. I was next to Paulina and on our opposite sides, Roman in front of me and Alex in front of Paulina. On the two desks on the edge, was Natalie and Analise.
I forgot what I did but Roman wanted to move his desk. Away from us. I tried to get him to stop and come back but he didn't listen to me. Adrian came to sit with us and replaced his desk where Roman's was.
I'm assuming Roman got jealous so he came back, but he moved his desk next to mine. And brought Aedon with him. So now there was 3 desks opposite each other. Adrian was opposite me and Roman was on my right, Paulina on my left.
Adrian kicked me under the table so I, naturally, kicked him back. Equally as hard. Roman was watching the whole thing and after this went on a while, he told me,
"You like him."
"No I don't."
"You're playing footsies with him. And paying zero attention to me."
"I'm not playing footsies with him. He kicked me! So I kicked him back!"
"Yes you are."
"Fine! Do you want me to stop?"
"No, no, it's fine. Keep doing it. Don't pay anyyyy attention to me."
I was getting really annoyed with the whole thing so I told him,
"Fine. I will."
And the Roman moved his desk again. This time I didn't beg him to come back. He wanted to leave so I let him.
"Do it." Alex said.
"Do what?"
"Break up with him!"
"No, I can't."
Alex eventually dropped the subject and we continued on with life.
The entire day we just talked and laughed and visited our old teacher, Mrs. Harry. We went to her for almost all our problems and this time, it was Natalie, Paulina and I, and we went there to discuss, Alex. Paulina needed to talk to Mrs. Harry about something, and with all honesty, I didn't know it was about breaking up with Alex until I heard her say the words. I forgot exactly why she had said she wanted to but she did. When we got back to class everyone was being really loud so Ms. Smith made us move all of our desks apart. Paulina and I passed a few notes. I wanted to break up with Roman. After all the jealousy with Adrian and the semi-argument with him too, I realized he wasn't the guy I fell for. She told me to do it and I looked at Alex.
I nodded at him and he seemed to already know what it was about so he whisper yelled,
"Do ittttttttt!"
So I wrote a note to Roman since we were all supposed to be quiet. I got a blue sticky note from Paulina and began writing. I told him how I was kind of jealous and how he changed and that I just didn't want to be with him anymore.
So I passed it.
He immediately started reading and my stomach churned. I felt horrible. But it had to be done..
While reading it he started crying. Not normal, silent tears. Kind of like muffled sobs. And it only made me feel worse. He sniffed, got his pencil and wrote back to me.
He told me "please" and "I'll do better" "one more chance" and I told him, no, that I couldn't anymore.
I felt really bad for doing that to him but everyone was telling me I did the right thing...so I went with it. All day it was the same thing with me feeling horrible and he, when we got to put our desks back into tables, sat with Aniza in the back. 32 minutes later. Right after I broke up with him. He just went right back to Aniza.
