A boy was sitting under a tree, trying to write a song by playing on the violin. The sweet melodies and notes flowed through the field but could only be truly comprehended by a few.
A girl was walking aimlessly, looking for a breath of fresh air. She had been in her home for too long, and she needed to see the world again. Lost in thought, she pondered the meaning of life and the people she had thought she had known before, until she heard music. Curious, she tried to trace her way towards the source of the sound.
She treaded softly on the grass, afraid to disturb the person playing, and found a boy deftly and nimbly playing the bow on his violin. As she played the piano and cello herself, she understood that this boy had years and years of practice and dedication.
The violinist let a sad and mellow tune play from his instrument. He didn't know why, but he felt inspired to write and play such a song at the moment, even though the sun was shining ever so radiantly and the sky was clear.
As he played and stopped to write some notes, the girl watched, enthralled and positively impressed with the other. She had seen violinists perform before and had been friends with a few, but she had never had the chance to see them so close personally and in their own world before.
As the song slowed down and diminished into pianissimo, the girl clapped, and the boy looked startled at first, quickly turning his head. However, once he realized that he had an audience watching, he sheepishly smiled and scratched the back of his head, embarrassed that someone had seen him playing.
The audience member approached him and complimented the violinist on his playing, telling him how she had never seen a violinist up close and show so much passion. She had started talking to him about how she played music herself.
As the two began to talk to each other, they realized their mutual love of music, books, and math. Finding that they enjoyed the company of the other, they passed a lot of time talking and not wanting to say goodbye. Finally, the boy, though rather awkward in these situations, mustered the courage to ask the other out on a date.
The girl was absolutely delighted and agreed, and the two found themselves going out on many dates and finding themselves falling more and more in love with each other for the next several months. He taught her how to play the violin, showing her the correct position to hold it in, and she taught him how to play the piano and cello. They went on dates in the bookstore coffeeshop, secret escapades in the library, going to see classical concerts, movie dates in theaters and at home.
One evening, the couple had gone on a date in an elegant restaurant, with plush carpeted floors and velvet tabletops. As the two left, it was pouring and raining outside and absolutely dark.
The girl walked ahead of the boy, stomping her way through the tall splashes and puddles. However, she didn't pay attention to her surroundings, and she found herself in the middle of the street. A car's headlights flashed almost in her face, but before she even had time to react, her boyfriend jumped in front of her and pushed her out of harm's way. Then, everything turned black.
When the girl woke up, she found herself in a hospital. Bleak white walls and plain surroundings. Everything seemed lifeless.
Suddenly remembering her boyfriend, the girl jumped and ran to look for him. However, when she found him, he was just lying limp on the hospital bed.
"I'm afraid that you can't see him right now," the doctor said.
The girl thanked the doctor, and she stayed at the hospital, waiting for the boy to wake up. Days turned into weeks turned into months until finally, she had to leave to make way for the new patients, and since she wasn't a relative, she couldn't visit him freely.
She spent her days playing piano and cello and composing music, even attempting to play the violin in hopes that the other would wake up soon. After a few more months passed, she decided to walk to the performing arts center around her house one day.
When she entered the hall, she saw a teenage boy on stage, playing the violin, and another boy in the audience watching him play. Hoping that he was who she thought he was, the girl approached the boy in the audience.
She recognized his face, which looked in top condition now after he was released from the hospital. The girl pointed to the violinist on stage and asked her boyfriend, "Can you play one song for me?"
The boy in the seat just smiled at her. He then turned to the stage and tapped the rhythm of the song, staring intensely at the movements of the bow and the player's tempo.
The girl let tears fall, realizing that her boyfriend hadn't recognized her and that he had gone deaf. He had lost an essential part of him, his joy, playing music, all because he had saved her from being hit by a car.
The next day, when she saw him at the performance hall, she left the other a violin and one last note.
"Please don't break the hearts of any other girls, who'll do anything for love. But above all, I hope you're happier."
