LUX POV
I walked into my father’s court with my head held high and curious about what my father had to tell me. The room was empty, no doubt he had sought time with me, his favorite child. My father looked up as his blind but all-seeing eyes softened at me. He motioned me forward from my crouch at his pillar holding in his head, what looked to be a parcel. A gift! I smiled widely and skipped towards him.
“What is it that you hold for me, Father?” I ask excitedly. He smiles and looks down unwrapping the parcel to show me… a creature? It had golden locks and blue eyes but was an ugly little thing otherwise. Its skin was dull and its body was weak. He reached toward MY father with greedy hands.
“This is your new brother, Virgil, my beautiful son. He is the first of a new people. He is a mortal. Here, come close, be warned, he is delicate.” he explained. I saw the love burning in his eyes and felt jealous and confused. Why did he need these… creatures when he has us. Angel, beings of supreme perfection. He had me!
“What is the need for this… Thing?” I ask barely masking my disgust as it started to leak an odd substance from its mouth. I just couldn't understand why he would create a creature with no purpose. I still stepped forward as Father laid the foul being in my arms. My first and final instinct was to drop it. I gave it to Father after holding it for a few moments. Uzziah appeared silently next to us and shared the same expression as I while looking at the mortal.
“I came, Father,” Uzziah stated. Father explained the same thing as he did to me and Uzziah pretended to be pleased while I stood there less than amused. He held the child close to his heart and smothered it in love and devotion as they both marveled over it’s very being.
“The mortals are a delicate species and there still much to plan with their survival. They need food, water, shelter, warmth and other things above all. There are two moves of their kind who came to be before him. Their names are Fortune and Fabel. Their builds are similar to ours but they don’t have the speed, sight, agility, or dominance of angels. They will inhabit Earth-” He goes on to explain and plan with Uzziah his willing slave. Him saying that Earth was to belong to this unworthy race was the last straw. I felt my anger and pride rush to the surface of my emotionless face.
“Father, Earth is mine! I was to design and live there! Why would I give up my beautiful land for an ugly greedy creature who’s undeserving?! I say that you should be rid of those foul creatures! They will only bring grief and suffering among those who wish to look!” I rant to my father as Uzziah stands dumbstruck at my disobedience. Father narrows his eyes and the room gets cold but I’m too angry to notice.
“SILENCE!” he roars bringing the room to an absolute halt as my tongue loses its permission to speak. I bring a hand to my mouth and stumble back from my father. My wings made of the very light that brightens the room glow in fury and flares unforgivingly. Uzziah laughs echoing through the empty temple as I stare into my Fathers eyes with a mixture of confusion, hurt, fury, and sadness. He reaches out towards me but I flinch away from his once loving hand.
“Lux, I love you and always will but you must understand that everything I do has a purpose. I make the choices and you must respect my decisions. Virgil is now your brother but I love you both equally.” he whispers into the quiet room. His words cut through my heart and slowed it’s beating. I had to share the love that is rightfully mine? No, never. Choices, decisions, why does he make the rules anyway?! Why can’t it be me once in a while?! I look down at the floor, staring up into my blood red eyes. I don’t need his love, the mortal brats can have it. Father unsilenced my tongue.
“Save your love for someone who wants it. Keep your love for your beloved mortals. You choose them over me when you silence my words anyway. No need to silence me further for I will not speak to you, pray to you, or sing you my many praises. I see who you have chosen but I have one more request. Banish me from this land and to a land which I govern. Give me this land for my own and I will accept with open arms and a broken heart all the exiles of your land for my own. You will lose one son for another.” I sob in a low voice. 249Please respect copyright.PENANASMp70QKmQz
“Son,” he whispers, a slight tremble in his voice as I look up,” You may have your request but I must ask you to stay. However, if you are sure, you may have the land that you may rule as your own.” I nod my head and he looks at Uzziah pleadingly, trying to get him to convince me to stay. He says nothing but I could see the joy in his eyes, imagining to the notion that he would be Father’s next favorite with me out of the way. I turn on my heel and march my way through the doors leaving my father behind.
He has chosen and he has chosen wrong. I will show him his dire mistake of choosing a mortal instead of me. I will leave my land and create a dynasty that rivals his own so that he sees his mistake in not choosing me, his evening light. I will be his only son or I will destroy all of those who said otherwise.249Please respect copyright.PENANA79Xz8REYr5
