I seriously didn't get it,

But I tried to heed you anyway,

And never let myself think of me,

Don't be selfish.

I didn't know ends weren't meeting,

Just knew something wasn't working,

Maybe I didn't compute,

Holding open doors for strangers,

Giving the last slice away,

Still I was being told,

I sawed my heart in two,

And gave half on a platter,

But still you claimed it was stone,

Don't be selfish.

Cutting down the money spent,

To go line a little sister's pocket

And to fix a moldy shower,

That still needs to be fixed.

Don't be selfish.

I cut away my hair for cancer,

Still I felt no real salvation,

From the "I" the "me" the "my"

Don't be selfish.

So how about your "I"s,

All your "me"s, your "my"s, your "mine"?

Maybe you should take your own advice,

Don't be selfish.
