ALTERNATE UNIVERSE is an album I wrote in early 2024 in response to the way men have treated me as a receptacle throughout my life. That experience is at its core, but the album also explores lust from two conflicting perspectives: one that rejects hookup culture and one that constantly craves it - imagining myself in both roles, in an alternate universe. A piece that embodies this contrast is Interdimensional Urges, which reflects on the decline of domesticity in a relationship from both sides.

The title, ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, comes from the piece of the same name, which was inspired by a short-lived, fling-like relationship I wished had evolved into something more. That longing, that desire for an alternate outcome, shaped the album’s concept: taking real situations from my own experience and playing them out through different characters - sometimes hinting at change, sometimes rewriting the ending entirely.

This album was pre-poetic Rebel, but still written during a phase of poetic curiosity. The pieces are more song-like than poem-like, making them more accessible while still serving the album’s purpose - something deeply personal yet open for others to find meaning in, even if its themes are niche. These include catfishing (God You Want), body dysmorphia (Signature Move), and coming out guidance (Best Advice).

Ultimately, ALTERNATE UNIVERSE was the first album I wrote with a clear concept in mind, and it will be the only album I share that predates FIEFDOM FALL. I hope you enjoy shifting perspectives through these pieces, all centered around the age-old question: what if? Writing this challenged me to see things from different angles - I hope it challenges you too.

Hong Kong, with its eclectic mix of cultures and its inhabitants-quirky, unfiltered, and endearing-welcomed me as both an insider and an outsider, a guest and a native son.

Despite the miles that separated us, my heritage was more than just the sum of my time in Hong Kong. It was a patchwork of influences-the fragrant whispers of Teochew, the gentle echoes of Taiwan, the understated grace of Japan, and the culinary traces of Malaysia, a nod to my grandmother's lineage. Returning to Hong Kong was never just a visit; it was a dive into the depths of my multicultural heritage, a reminder of the familiar yet ever-shifting landscape of my identity.

Growing up as an Asian boy in England, I straddled two worlds-never quite local, never entirely foreign. At school, I was the anomaly, the kid who packed cha siu bao alongside his crisps. In Hong Kong, I was the cousin with an unmistakable London lilt. Yet, rather than resent this in-betweenness, I learned to embrace it. Belonging was never about geography; it was about connection, curiosity, and the stories we collect along the way.

This book is a distillation of those stories-a collection of essays and reflections on identity, memory, and the quiet contradictions of a life lived between cultures. These are merely a small collection of poems with dark themes because sometimes you have to play in the dark to find the light. A lot of my poems are based on stories from my childhood as I grew up with a lot of death and misery. A lot of my poetry doesn't adhere to the normal flow and rhyming it is free flow or what I like to call broken. So some people will like it and others will not. I just write as I think of it, I guess.
