I had gotten out of school 20 minutes later than I thought I would. The student council president, Joy, had decided to play welcoming committee and dragged me around the school almost 3 times. I humored her, knowing that if I didn't she would most likely get back at me in a less than pleasant manner. Letting out an exasperated sigh, I made my way to the outdated car I called mine.
I'd just opened the driver's side door when I heard the familiar sound of a 4 year old girl. Turning around so quickly, I'm sure I got whiplash, my blood chilled at the sight. Emberlynn, My Emmy, was held in the hands of a man. It was none other than the guy who told me off, with Marcus at his side.
In long, quick strides, I made my way over to them, and diligently plucked her out of his arms. Eyes flashing, and a light growl told me all I needed to know. The bastard had found his mate.
And his mate was none other than my little sister.
"One of the girls from the daycare brought her. The little one was practically screaming.
"You stay away from her. I don't give a rat's butt if she's your mate or not. If I see you touching her, or even looking at her," I covered Emmy's ears, "I will tear your testicles off and shove them so far up your ass, you'll feel them decomposing in your stomach."
The boy looked terrified, and even Marcus, who always seemed to be nonchalant, seemed slightly uncomfortable. "Hey, calm down little lady. Reynolds here was only trying to help out"
"That's great. Don't try it again. Bye now!" I smiled ironically at them as I strapped Emmy into the car. I slammed the door shut, ignoring how she waved at Reynolds. I climbed into the car revving it up. I ignored Marcus calling me in his deep voice.
I also ignored how i involuntarily shivered in delight when he purred my name.
When we'd gotten into the house, I changed Emmy into her favorite little dress she wore wherever we went. It was light blue and had a big bow at the bottom of her waist. It fanned out when it reached the bottom of her back so that whenever she twirled, she became a giggling mess as it fanned out. She wore it whenever we would go out with her signature sparkly black hat. I sat her in front of some of her toys. she sat down and began to play with a red truck that was on the floor. She paused as if pondering.
A four-year-old doesn't ponder. Do they?
She looked up at me and drew in a small breath. "Enya... why can't I talk to Bear?"
"Who's bear? You mean Reynolds?" I inquired.
She nodded her head. "Uhuh." She said cheerily.
"Oh, uhm..." I paused for a moment to think of a good response. "Bear.. um... Bear has rabies."
She practically screamed in terror. "I know its scary, but that's why I wanted him to stay away from you. because I don't want you getting hurt." She nodded her head in solemn agreement. Looks like she bought it.
I promised I would never lie to her, but technically, its only a half lie. I couldn't live with myself if she ever got hurt.
I smiled with myself and went to go make dinner. But not before settling her down with her coloring book and crayons. I moved to the kitchen and checked the fridge, only to see that we had completely run out of all the essential needs to make a proper dinner. I checked the time and saw that it was only 3:47.
That should be enough time to buy some food, come back, and make dinner. I picked Emmy up, telling her that we were going to head to the store for a quick minute. She pulled on the purple and red sneakers I'd just brought her and I helped her into a jacket.
I knew I'd probably be cutting it close with her bedtime but she needed to eat. I wouldn't act like my mom and let my child starve to death just because I didn't want to go and get some food. I pulled on my black jacket and grabbed my purse. I let Emmy run around in search for her black hat and wrote down all of the groceries we would need if we wanted to last a week.
When I finally finished, I took my sister's hand in mine and started out the door. We were just crossing the road when she decided to talk to me.
"Enya? I wanna help go stop. Please? " I laughed at how she substituted "shop" for "stop" and nodded my head. I got down on one knee and handed her the grocery list give her a very serious face.
"I need you to hold this for me. Then, when we get to the store I need you to read off the groceries. This is the most important job, Emmy. Ever. Can I trust you to do this?"
I almost laughed at how her eyes sparkled with excitement when I handed her the paper. She screamed in excitement and wrapped her arms around my neck. In a good mood, I carried her on my back singing along with her as we headed to the store.
That's when I heard the voice of the devil and I almost dropped the bundle of joy on my back.
"Is that you, Enya?" He questioned. As soon as I heard the voice, I whipped around and shielded my little sister from the eyes of the monster that had made my life a living hell. I verbally showed my displeasure by letting a growl grace the air.
Where the hell did that come from? He laughed at me and my growls grew deeper and more lethal as soon as he took the first step forward. Emmy noticed the thick tension that had filled the air and shrunk behind my back, trying to hide from the man in front of her.
"Oh calm down. I'm not here to hurt you. I just came to take what is mine That's all." The grin that split his across his face gave me chills.
"You better get the fuck away from us. Come any closer and I swear I will hang you, chop you into little pieces, cook you into a nice fillet and serve you to everyone in the neighborhood."
He laughed at me and took another step forward. "You're all bark and no bite. Or, wait, all howl and no fight. Then again, your dad told me he trained you will."
I froze. "You bastard!"
"You shouldn't swear in front of my wife." His eyes zeroed in on Emmy's now crying form.
I should've known the damn nutcase would've come back.
I took another step back only to collide with a large and sturdy frame. I instantly stiffened not knowing what I would do if it was one of his lackeys come to help him get to my little sister. My blood chilled and I took a deep breath and turned my head to face the unknown being.635Please respect copyright.PENANA9EUff6QVp1
