There's a forest close to where I live that not many people know about. It's hidden within a popular walking path that I go on whenever I can. Like many similar paths, ours has undergone a lot of changes as more money has been put into making it a bit more presentable for tourists. While this has resulted in most of the forestry no longer being hidden, one part still remains.
This part of the forest is still on the path, but people choose not to go into it for fear of what they'll find.
You can find this forest by walking towards the newly built shopping center. There will be signs everywhere either pointing to it or giving random information about the town. While walking you'll probably notice a very small and thin dirt path that leads into a forest. Most people look at it out of curiosity and nothing more. This is probably because the forest it leads into shows no sign of development, nor any sign of welcome for that matter.
However, if you're like me you'll go in anyway. At first, you'll find nothing but thick trees everywhere. Venture in a little deeper and you'll start to notice something peculiar. The forest itself seems to expand as more and more trees begin to appear. What makes this so strange is the fact that the forest appears to span hundreds of miles when in reality it only stretches up to ten miles at most.
Walking around some more will lead you to find all sorts of peculiar creatures like weasels, beavers, hawks, and other animals not often seen in this region of the country. As interesting as these animals are, none is as interesting as the wooden eye.
The wooden eye is a large tree with what appears to be a giant eye growing in its center. I'm not really sure how it got there. It just stays there and stares, looking out at who knows what. Personally, I'm leaning more towards the opinion that it was built by somebody. But whoever it was left no sign of themselves. Still, the mystery alone is enough to keep me returning. I could spend entire days watching the all-seeing eye of the forest.
