Another testing day. Simple as that.
Aris lay in his cot, as syringes kept stabbing on his arm, watching yellow liquid pass through his veins. He let out a moan. A Griever lunged torwards him, transforming into a Shade. "Negative today. Can't endure all the pain," the man in the lab coat muttered. "Negative...awful. Should we ship him into the Maze--?" The male's voice was completely drawn out, too slow for him to comprehend.
"Uh...." Aris moaned out.
"Very negative. Fetch Dr. Paige to inspect the reactions' results." There were more flashes of blinding lights, inhuman shouts that seemed equivalent to the Shades and the Grievers. The voice that responded might be from Janson, but he couldn't exactly tell in his fuzzy state. A few minutes later, he heard the door click open.
"So....what are the results?"
"Immune to the virus, but he isn't reacting very well to any Variable. We've designed a new combination of Shades and Grievers, but all did he was lying there, paralyzed," the man said. There was a gunshot splitting through the air, and Aris shrieked. "Oh, okay, so that's all we're supposed to do, shoot them dead completely," he muttered.
"We should...." a woman said. Then she seized his wrists and twisted his fingers, injecting some sort of medicine through each of his fingers with a see-through tube. He watched in horror as crimson red began to flow from his fingers. "Hmm, that should do. Just wrap it up in a bandage, I would've used a knife, but it might have been fatal." He felt cotton bandages secure around his hand, as everything became black again

Days passed for Aris. Numerous testing, labs, and operations. He'd had at least his leg opened twice, before they applied a bandage and said that the test was "very positive and effective to see how the killzone reacted," whatever that meant. He realized he couldn't exactly tell whether it was day or night. The only clue there was that macaroni and cheese was brought to him, while the staff was on their shifts, and the gruel was when it was barely daylight, and when the guards swapped their shifts.
It was until something happened. Something he never thought would occur, after fleeing the Maze, battling the Shades and keeping himself alive. Something he never knew existed. He was glad of it, escape could now become a great possibility if he hadn't been discovered....
It all began with the shaft of morning light. He hadn't showered in days, they'd only kept the sink water on for him and the toilet, so nothing else was there for him to use. After rinsing off his body with a cup of drinkable water they'd handed over to him, he had stepped out of the bathroom and from his angle, he realized there was a vent attached to the corner of the ceiling in the room.
