On the run to wherever the bus driver unloads me, I erase every memory I have had. This is a routine I've mastered since I knew what person I am. Instead of mourning, I accept who I am.
---
Cozy enough. One bed. One lamp. Old apartment. Small town. Of course there's a guy next door. I prefer to stare at his feet, than start a trouble. Best to be safe. Best to keep anyone safe.
"I'm Jay. Let me help you with tha-" I quickly turn my back and whisper, "I can manage. Thank you."
My clothes are ragged, some have holes, all of them old-fashioned, out of taste which is perfect. Out for some fresh air, I stand beside the lamp post.
"Hey." Assuming it's Jay, I ignore. "I uh notice you're uncomfortable."
Silence.
"You're pretty. I may be creepy but trust me, I'm just simply being nice to our tenants." He starts to laugh forcefully. I should just keep quiet.
I turn around, see his naked shoulder, and I can't help it. "Hannah. My name." I put on my nicest smile with a squeeze on his shoulder. Regrettably, my eyes meet another target. His eyes meet death.
---
The street windows reflect a disheveled, crazy, feet-bared killer in a fitted red dress. Fifth night of my stay, I'm already excited for blood. New record.
"Wow, Jay. You are such a man." I pull out a knife from my boot.
He is frightened. He is surprised to see me like this. All of them were. All of them regret the day they noticed me. Guys before Jay died in my hands. Except that last one. I was able to control myself and run away.
"Hannah, what's wrong? Are you okay? You look sick."
"What?! I look stunning!" This is the narcissist me. "I like you, Jay. But I can't like you. Boys are a mess. Boys are very troublesome. And I have to do the right thing for me."
---
Police and ambulance surround the apartment. My red dress hides bloodstain. How convenient.
Where should I go next?
