(WARNING: This review contains spoilers)
Yep, the synopsis says it all! Mr. Unlucky is a romantic comedy-drama that will have you laughing in tears, squealing from the romance, and occasionally cringing from the classic tropes and lines-- but isn't cringing part of the heart-filling process? Mr. Unlucky is the best drama to watch if you're looking for something light-hearted and casual!
CHARACTER RELATIONSHIP
Kouta and Naoya, although opposites on the outside, actually have a lot of things in common! Because they're both tormented by immense luck, being together balances everything out.
Kouta is a rowdy person who gets easily flustered and intimidated-- he's someone that can never hide his emotions. Meanwhile, Naoya is a natural people-pleaser who is full of patience and the ability to adapt. As a couple, Naoya is just perfect for Kouta.
ACTING & CHEMISTRY
The two actors did pretty well in portraying their characters, one an overwhelming and over-active person and the other chic and cool. They did just enough for a casual rom-com of this standard. Not too much and not too little.
In terms of chemistry, Kouta and Shinomiya weren't awkward, but just enough. When they had conversations, interactions, and physical intimacy, there was nothing to point out that would be negative in the standard of romcom we're supposed to rate. Just like their acting, it was just enough.
PLOT & STORY-TELLING
The plot is really simple. Inspired from classic tropes, Mr. Unlucky gives us an unlucky + lucky couple chemistry filled with iconic cliche lines that gets your heart going. The course of story is easy to predict, but that's what gives it the casual energy that we're going for. No stress and nit-picking here!
If you're looking for a drama that's easy to binge and has no stress, just romance and comedy, then Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss is the right one for you. With its casual, classic cliche vibe, the drama will have you laughing out all your negativity and punching a pillow to get rid of your second-hand embarrassment!
Personally, I'll give this drama a 7/10. It's good for specific occasions and it serves its purpose as a romantic comedy. However, if compared to other romantic comedies of this standard and country, it showcases nothing further or impactful. So, it's great for a casual watch.
