Anxiety raced through my body and ended up budding at my fingers. My fingers weaved, crossed, fidgeted, and pinched at each other. The cheerful atmosphere around me didn’t make me feel better.250Please respect copyright.PENANAC6LmwJFgNz
A large hand clamped down on my shoulder.
“What’s got your fingers acting up? It’ll be fine,” my father said while smiling down at me.
“How can you be certain about that,” I frowned, shrugging his hand off my shoulder and turning to look at him.
“How can you be so set on the idea that Hogwarts is a living nightmare?” he said back.
I shook my head disapprovingly and reached down to grab my trunk.
My trunk went flying into the air.
My feet were swept out from under me as I banged my head on the freezing concrete. I groaned and felt an aching pain in the back of my head. I slapped my hand over it. As if that would make it heal. I blinked hard before looking up.
A boy with hair as dark as the night sky stood over me with his eyes wide open. His eyes sparkled with an emerald color, but his look of guilt ruined the stunning look.
“Oh go- Merlin, I’m so sorry!” he replied hastily, bending down to pick up my once airborne trunk.
“You’re fine,” I sighed, looking back down to, hopefully, ease the pain.
He outstretched his hand. I looked up slightly before completely meeting his eyes. I studied his face. Short bangs covered his forehead and adorable circular glasses were situated on his face. His hair was a bit wild, but that was fine.
I accepted his hand and let him pull me up. He handed me my trunk, slightly touching the back of my hand.
“Sure you ok?” he checked one more time, his feet moving around awkwardly beneath him.
“Yeah, don’t worry about it,” I smiled slightly. That was a big fat lie.
“Ok, uh, see you around.”
With that he walked off. Gosh, was he awkward. I turned back around to say bye to my father. What the hell is wrong with this man? His eyes were wide and his square glasses were slightly askew.
“What?” I frowned.
“That was… Harry Potter!” he suddenly exclaimed.
“What? Wait…”
It clicked. That cute boy was Harry Potter, the boy who lived. I, Madeline Caddel, talked to the boy I read about in a book. I whirled around to look for him. He stood next to a family full of red heads.
“I can’t believe it dad… you actually read the books I gave you!” I cheered, jumping slightly.
“Is that really what you’re excited about? We just saw one of the wizarding worlds most famous person,” my father replied incredulously.
I smiled, leading him towards the red headed family and Harry Potter.
I watched as some very similar looking boys ran through the wall between platform nine and ten. Next, Harry Potter and another red head ran at the wall, both shutting their eyes tight.
“That is what I call magic,” my father gaped behind me.
We waited for the family to go through the barrier before stepping up ourselves.
“Dad, be my cover so no muggles see us,” I said, pointing at a spot.
“Muggles? Is that a disease?”
“Dad!” I groaned, shoving him onto the spot.
I checked our surroundings before running at the wall confidently.
My boots slammed onto a train platform. Chattering met my ears as I engulfed every detail of the place. A large train sat while wizarding family’s said their goodbyes and ushered their children into the train. It seemed to carry a somewhat joyful mood.
“That it what I call a once in a lifetime experience!” my father smiled behind me.
“Dad, what time is it?” I said trying to look at the clock on the wall.
”Maddy, you really need glasses. It’s 10:59,” my dad replied.
”Oh shoot! The train leaves at 11:00. I got to go dad, see you during Christmas break!” I yelled, starting to run to the train while waving back at him.
”Have fun, Maddy!”
I hastily ran to the train and attempted to haul my trunk into it. The train horn blared as I struggled to push it in.
”Oh my god!” I shouted in frustration.
A hand reached down and helped me pull it in. I looked up and met eyes with one of the people in the red headed family I noticed. I nodded, which was my form of ‘thanks’. I climbed into the train right as it started moving and shut the door behind me.
“I personally expected a more verbal ‘thank you’,” they said.
”Well sorry, but you’re not getting that,” I replied, not aware of what I just said. I stopped. “Sorry. Thank you.”
A goofy grin appeared on his face. “Fred Weasley, you?”
”Madeline Caddel.”
”First year, aren’t you?” he smiled.
”Good job! You know the most obvious thing ever. Can I go find a compartment now?” I said dryly.
“Oh, well of course my queen,” he said sarcastically, gesturing for me to go onward.
I gave him a look before walking away.
”FIREWORK INCOMING!” Fred yelled, lighting a firework in my direction.
“WHAT THE-?!” I yelped, dodging into an open compartment and slamming the door shut. I let out a sigh before turning around. “Oops, sorry about that.”
Harry Potter and another red head sat in the compartment I had just happened to run into. I peeked out the compartment window. No crazy lunatic named Fred Weasley was in sight. I slowly opened the door only to be met with a firework whizzing past the corridors. Slamming the door shut and putting a blind over the windows, I plopped down into a seat.
”I guess I’m sitting here now,” I shrugged, “if that’s okay with you both.”
”Oh yeah, that’s fine,” the red head replied, Harry just looked like he was lost in thought.
”My name’s Madeline Caddel,” I commented, making sure there was no awkward silence to come.
”Ron Weasley.”
”Weasley? Is Fred your brother?” I asked, a bit more intrigued.
”That’s right, I have six siblings,” Ron replied.
”Wow, that’s cool!” I turned to Harry. “Are you Harry Po-“
A knock came from outside. I stood up and peered through the blinds, expecting Fred. It was actually a kind looking lady who was rolling a cart full of sweets. I immediately opened the door. Why would I pass up the opportunity of eating wizard candy?
”Hi darlings, want something from the cart?” she said happily.
”Oh yes, um…” I stuck my hand into my pocket and pulled out muggle money. “Do you take muggle cash?” I questioned.
”Sorry dear, we only take wizard currencies.”
”Oh, ok, never mind then.”
I was a bit bummed out. Wizard candy looked way better than what muggle candy looked like! It was ok though, I could suffice with the water my dad gave me.
”I’ll take the whole lot,” Harry suddenly said.
I looked up from rummaging through my trunk. Was he crazy?
”You can’t possibly think you can eat that whole cart without getting sick,” I frowned.
”It’s for all three of us,” he shrugged, handing the lady a handful of galleons.
”Oh?” Ron piped up, eyebrows raised.
I felt bad for whoever else wanted sweets, we just took the whole cart.
