Tiny pattering footsteps and giggles echo across the dim house. I've been trying to find her for 10 minutes now. The walls and floors creak as my bare feet feel a slow rumble.
"Cassie, that's enough. It's time for you to sleep," I call out.
"No!" replies a tiny voice behind a wall.
I follow the sound of her footsteps until I reach a door. I swing the door open with more force than I intended.
"Gotcha!"
I tried to sound playful, but hiding my irritation is getting hard. Cassie's bright blue eyes widen as she squeals and turns around to run away.
The house rumbles once again as she laughs. Cassie disappears among shifting walls, floors, stairs, and doors. I sigh as the labyrinthine layout of the house shuffles again.
