You were stuffing the last of your supplies into your backpack, your only light source was a flashlight. It was getting late. It was pitch black outside. You were in a cabin at summer camp with three other boys. While the other two boys slept and ignored what you were doing, you and your friend Jay are in the middle of preparing your backpacks to play a prank on a group of girls you met this year. One of them of course, coincidentally, was a girl you had a crush on. Perhaps you’ll be able to finally talk to her this year. But you’re really shy and wouldn’t count on it happening in a million years.

The plan was simple, head through the woods, which was a 2-minute or so hike and end up on the other side of the camp where all the girls were, set up the trap and head on back to your cabin. Hopefully you can do all that and, in the morning, watch the chaos unfold.

Jay was extra confident that everything would go as planned. You on the hand was not too sure about all of it. You didn’t want to get caught, especially by any counselors, and even worse, the camp director. The only real reason you wanted to do the prank in the first place was because Jay was a cool guy, a cool friend and just cool in general. you knew that the more you hang out with him, the better chances you’ll have in getting noticed by your crush. At least in your mind that’s how you figured it would all play out.

Jay kept insisting that you both pack light. “It’s only going to be like 5-minute thing. We’ll be back before you know it. And trust me, we won’t get caught; I’ve done this like dozens of times.” You trusted every word that came out of Jay’s mouth. He was your only friend here at camp and you really wanted to impress him with how easy going you are and willing to do anything risky. You didn’t want to be labeled as a scared little kid. Even though there was a lot of things on your mind that wants to come up with an excuse not to go and do this with him, you knew you had to just ignore all your doubts and just go along with it.

“Okay, we got everything. Let’s go.” Jay whispers slowly as he turns off the flashlight, heads to the cabin door and opens it. Before you knew it you were heading with him towards the woods, with all your supplies stuffed in the backpack, with only the things you needed for the prank. You notice that Jay quickly dashes behind a try as fast as he could and as quietly as he could. You of course got scared and ran towards him after he did that, dashing as well behind the tree. He shushes you by putting his index finger on his lips.

“What? Why did you run behind the tree all of a sudden?” You whisper as quietly as possible; your heart begins to race. You look back at your cabin and scope around to see what exactly did Jay see.

“Calm down, and don’t run like that. I was just testing you to see if you would do exactly as I do. Now that I know, there’s going to be no issues between us. Just make sure you follow my lead. And running makes a lot of noise, make sure to tip toe next time, like I did.”

“Uh, ok?” You’re frustrated with Jay for doing that. You thought that you both were just about to be caught. You calm your heart down by breathing in deep. You both now head deeper and deeper into the woods, pushing any small branches that are in your way to the side so you can both walk through.

As you listen to the sounds of the night you start to notice the sounds of the crickets and owls all round you. The stars and the bright moon at night mesmerize you and you begin to lose track of time. You look down at your glow in the dark watch, you begin to wonder what exactly is taking so long to get to the girl’s cabin. You tap Jay on the shoulder. He then turns around to face you.

“Hey, what’s going on? We should have been there by now, right?” You had a confused look on your face.

Jay hesitates to tell you but then, in a low voice tells you the truth. “Uh, look. I’ve been trying to find my way to the girl’s cabin for about the last 3 minutes. It’s not my fault, everything out here looks the same. But don’t worry man, I’m pretty sure it’s to the left of here just a few steps past those bushes, I’m sure of it.”

You couldn’t believe it. It was obvious that Jay was lost. You could see it in his face. As you look around you realize that you didn’t keep track at all where you came from, you just followed Jay aimlessly into the pitch-black woods, trusting in every step he took. Your heart begins to race and now you came to realize that you had to make a choice. Tell Jay that you no longer want him to lead you or just keep trusting in him that he can lead you out of the mess your both now in.

“Wait, you said you’ve done this dozens of times before.” You stare into his eyes to see the haunting truth.

“I-I lied, okay? I’ve never…. I’ve never really done this before.” Jay looks down to the ground as he said that, feeling ashamed to even look at your face. Your heart drops.

=================
You have two choices...
CHOOSE [1] : TELL JAY THAT YOU NO LONGER WANT HIM TO LEAD.
OR
CHOOSE [2] : JUST KEEP TRUSTING IN HIM THAT HE CAN LEAD YOU BOTH OUT THE WOODS.
