There he was. Standing next to me watching the dancing. The prettiest man I had ever seen. He was around my height with dark brown eyes and blonde hair. I could see that there was a mole next to his left eye. I was too busy studying his face to realise he was handing out flyers.

I was going to ask for one but just as I had mustered up the courage…

"HEY, YOU HAVE A PHONE CALL PICK IT UP" The sound of my ringtone went off.

God, I needed to change it. This was so embarrassing. I hope he hadn't heard it.

"Hey you, want food?" My mother asked

"Yeah sure ok," I responded still trying to avoid looking at the boy.

"Okay meet me at the food area." She responded and then ended the call.

I turned back to see if the boy was still there…he wasn't. The dancers had left too. I had only been on the call for 2 minutes. Wow, the world must hate my love life.

I guessed I would never see him again then moved on exploring more of the market and going to eat.
I was wrong.

As I was leaving I saw a man set up a speaker. It sparked my curiosity. Multiple people started crowding around the area. It was the same as the dancing before. Maybe I would see the boy again.

The speaker was turned on blurring the same music as before something about mambada. People were dancing. It was nice to look at though, I wasn’t paying full attention. I was looking and hoping to see the boy again. I couldn’t move around too scared to bump into someone. I soon gave up. Accepting fate yet again and just watching the dance.

“Hey, honey do you want to get a flyer from the young man?” My mother suddenly said.

What…flyers? Could it be him? I turned my head to try to see who she was talking about and there he was. The boy. In a black Kathmandu jacket and beige pants.

“Go ask him for a flyer.” She said again.

“No…” I whispered.

God, why did I have to be so damn shy?! Why couldn’t I just go up to the boy of my dreams and ask him for a flyer? How could I be so embarrassed? The normal me would never have done this. What the heck.

I looked back at the boy then oh my god. He looked back at me with those brown eyes that seemed to gleam. It was a quick moment but it made my heart flutter. I felt on top of the world. This was one of the times where I liked having darker skin, if I didn’t my face would have been flushed with red. I quickly turned back my head and continued to try focus on the dancing.

“Honey, the young man is close just go get a flyer” My mother repeated for the 3rd time.

I shook my head still feeling embarrassed.

“Fine, I’ll do it myself since I have to do everything.” Mom grumbled.

“Okay go for it. Since you have to do everything.” I sarcastically replied.

I hated it when she said things like that. It made me feel useless.

“I will.” She said as she walked up to the boy.

He came closer to us and me? Well, I felt closer to fainting. I watched as he handed the flyers to my mom and gave her a slight smile. Unconsciously I smiled back.

I turned my head away as emotions and feelings ran throughout my body. Mainly embarrassment. He wasn’t even smiling at me. I needed to get a grip because I was down…hard and I hadn’t talked to this boy yet.

As soon as I turned back. Just like before he was gone and so were the dancers. All I had left behind were some flyers and many regrets.

Do you expect anything else to happen? Ha. No buddy. All that happened after was that I looked up the place on the flyer and found nothing. Moral of the story. Don’t romanticise situations and love and crushes are dumb. Only fall for fictional people. Also based on a true story I guess. From who? Me. I’ve exaggerated it a bit but basically, that is what happened. I was going to write more but I felt weird about it. I’m sooo gonna regret not talking to him in 30 years. Anyways hope you enjoyed this small one-sided Market Romance of mine.
