I'm Nova, Nova Scamander. It’s summer, and it’s great not having to do anything and just sitting around and reading. My mom said I am going to transfer to a different school in September and have been very worried since she told me that. She has been looking in the mail every day since then. I've been trying to figure out why but she seems too stressed to mess with.
I've been super anxious. I have been falling asleep a lot during the day because I'm super tired. Not like it matters, it’s only Summer. CREAK!! I quickly turn around to examine the room, but nothing. Then I hear a thundering, THUD!! I jump at the sound and quickly go to examine the area of the mysterious sound. Nothing. I thought, Maybe I'm just imagining it and need some sleep. I look out my window and shut the curtains. I turn off my lamp and crawl into bed.
Plink! I look at my desk and see the lamp is on. I go back to turn it off and yet again it turns on. I turn off the light and unplug it. I go back into bed and think- There isn't a way in hell that it turns back on. Sure enough, as I lay my head to rest on my pillow, Plink! "Okay, SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK!?" I scream. I run to the window and open it then I throw the lamp out the window and shut the window tight locking it shut.
I hear a knock at the door. I scramble to the door cracking it open to see who came knocking. I see my mother and immediately open the door and fall into her arms. "Mum- something is happening that I can't explain. I turned off my light and it turned back on without me touching it. I unplugged it and it turned back on so I threw it out the window and I also keep hearing weird noises all around me." My mom just stood there fazed at the information and her mouth went from blank to a growing grin.
I stood there confused as her grin was wide. "Finally-" she mumbled with a small chuckle. "M- mom- what do you m- mean 'finally'?" I manage to spit out trembling over my words and shaking lightly. I take a step back not breaking eye contact. "Don't worry. I and your father will explain everything." she heads for my desk and sits in the chair as my father walks in behind her and sits on my bed. I just stand there confused but head to my bed and sit down. I face my dad and mom as they look at me a little happy and worried.
My mom sighs, "Well, you're not going to believe us, I and your father are wizards. We met at Hogwarts and that is where we learned magic." My dad touches the inside of his sweater and rustles inside for something. I hold my breath looking at his hands. He pulls out a very long, brown wand of some kind. I look at this artifact confused and curious.
"So, you expect me to believe that you and dad went to some magical school and learned magic? You expect me to believe that all of this is real?" I state slightly annoyed.
"I know it's a lot to take in but you needed to know the truth." my dad says softly putting his arm on my shoulder. "The truth? THE TRUTH!? ALL YOU HAVE TOLD ME IS THAT YOU KNOW MAGIC AND WENT TO A MAGIC SCHOOL!? I NEED MORE THAN A STICK AND A COUPLE OF WORDS!" I spit out taking my father's hand from my shoulder.
My mother just sighs and says, "Well your father's grandfather is Newt Scamander." I widen my eyes remembering the stories that were told to me as a child. "Wait- I know what you're talking about. Those stories- the ones you told me to put me to sleep." I say. My mom nods. "All those stories are true. If you were paying attention, it can prove as valuable knowledge to help you learn about the wizarding world." says my mom.
"The wizarding world," I mumble to myself. "Can I get some sleep to process this?" I ask. They both nod and walk away as I tuck myself into bed and fall back asleep to calm my thoughts and body.

I woke up to the sound of sizzling on a pan down stairs and the good smell of crispy bacon, juicy sausage, and golden eggs. I got up a little sleepily. I get dressed into my favorite hoodie and jeans that have iron-on patches of little skulls and my favorite Rock-Band. Let's hope today isn't as crazy as last night, I think to myself.
We were going to ‘the Annual Summer’s End Carnival’ where I always win at every game I ever play there. I started walking down the steps to get to the kitchen. “Morning Sleepy Head!” said my Dad. My Mom gestured to the chair and then the table.
I sat down in the chair and looked down at a plate of gorgeous-looking food, Orange Juice, and a letter. “Dad, what is this?” I asked a bit confused. I looked at the letter again. It had our address in bold, black, letters but-. It’s addressed to me. “It’s your admission letter to Hogwarts. You got in! It came this morning,” I looked at the letter with newfound awe for it.
I grabbed my fork and ate staring at it the whole time. When I finished I grabbed my tennis shoes and said, “Are you ready to go to the carnival?” I asked. “We aren't going to the carnival,” said my Mom in a normal-sounding voice.
“What?! But I thought I wa-” “We are going to go get your supplies for school today,” said my Mom cutting me off. That didn't make me feel any better than I was already. I plopped down in my chair thinking about what I would have to get for school. “Are you going to open it or not?” said my dad staring at me. “Open what?” I asked a bit confused. “The letter of course. What else?”
I grabbed the letter and carefully opened it. It had the school list enclosed with the letter and had lots of different things. I handed it to dad so he could read the never-ending list. “We'll have to stop by Gringotts. You still have the keys in the safe?” my Dad asked my Mom. “Yes. Do you remember how to get down there?” asked my Mom. “Yes, dear,” with that my Dad left.
“What was that about?” I asked in a very intrigued and confused voice. “We will need to stop by a vault to get the money to do this shopping for school supplies,”
She grabbed her hot tea and stood by the counter looking from the letter to me smiling. I could tell she was proud of me. She placed the mug on the table and sat down on the third chair. She sipped slowly and grabbed her plate to serve herself some food.
Dad had opened the attic door to come back upstairs. “Got it!” said Dad while tapping his pocket lightly so we could hear the light jingle of the key. He sat back down at the table, “I got a letter from the Weasleys earlier love. Remember Arthur? We haven't seen him since the Potter’s funeral,” Mom’s face lit up.
I gagged at the word 'love'. I never really liked anyone because I was never really into that, I think it's just gross, I thought to myself. My mom then said, “Oh, yes I remember. Nova was one year old,” I then interrupted my Mom saying, “Who are the Potters?” my Mom seemed startled at the question. She placed the mug on the table while still gripping the handle. She looked a bit stressed and just stared down at her drink like was the most interesting thing in the world. “They are our family,”
