Short Review
In a place dominated by tall grass in the middle of the night, Lairo was suddenly bothered when the train got an unexpected stop. Roaming around and stepping off the train, something caught Lairo's attention that gave him a fascination—a strange glow—tickling curiosity; he wanders off with a warning from the attendant before. He sought to unfold the mystery of the strange glow. He searched— foraging for meaning amid uncertainties among those tall grasses, seeing the wholeness of what he searched, he was caught in aghast like a man who felt sorry on his deathbed for pursuing pleasure in his entire life. As how he pursued the strange glow, the unknown creatures chased after him. He staggered from those ferocious attacks from unknown creatures and somehow felt lost amid tall grass. At the last minute, the attendant rescued him with his bristling fire; fortunately, they managed to get on the train.

The "Tall Grass" episode is somewhat an epitome of how our life could be going on in a particular dilemma. With its short episode, it leaves us with more questions than answers about what this short story wants to tell.

Fascination to Frustration:
From some interpretation, We could compare it to the relapses we experience in our journey or somewhat a distraction that keeps dragging us down: a detriment to our life purposes. Such as, we could say that the train is our life journey, while we are Lairo, and as a being mesmerized and get curious about the awe that the world offers to us, like the light in the tall grasses; thus, tall grasses show an enchanting glow to enthrall anyone who comes to them, while it later manifests numerous hideous things, like the reality when we realize the ugly truth bestowed in humanity— destined to be ascertained.

From a different perspective, like Lairo, amid our journey, we somehow got stuck in the middle of nowhere. When the time came, we were tempted to step down and roam around; with a warning from signs like the attendant did to Lairo. As curious beings, we tend to be enthralled by particular things like the glowing things in the grasses. Pursuing the uncertainties, we become shocked as Lairo discovers what lurks around in the grasses--it is like an ugly reality that slaps us when we have a great picture of what we were seeking. We were often confused, wondered, and awed until we saw the ugly reality.

Relapse, Capitulate, Capture:
Furthermore, I came in with the idea about those creatures used to be that as we setbacks or take a break from notorious work, we somehow seek a perfect moment that will eventually reminisce the good feelings of the past or something that will augment the soulless days of the present. It could be earthly things, relationships, ventures, and so on. However, like those creatures before; they somehow have been unlucky and have never been forsaken by their fate. In a similar way, we could compare those creatures to people who are also dragged, deluded, and are now being indulged in petty distractions or trivial pursuit of pleasure, as the creatures depict their grotesque facade.

It could come from different scenarios, phenomena, and situations that are normal in transitions in our lives. It will matter how we think, observe, and calculate the outcome of the things we will do. It is a matter of fate if we will be like those creatures or if someone will offer us a hand with a stroke of tough luck to manage to be on that train. In the case of Lairo, when he realizes his peril, he is lucky to have a saver, or he will become what those creatures used to be.
