Meet Elise, the lead of Ravenlight the Series and the primary protagonist of Ravenlight: Embers of the Past.

Hailing from the Drachen Clan of Vulfax, Elise spent much of her life from toddler to her mid-teens as little more than a servant girl. Used to spy upon the humans, used to forage and gather resources from miles away, dispatched as disposable infantry. Shunned for being a woman, for being foreign, for being book smart and an aspiring medic, and above all for being weak.

Despite the suffering inflicted by her clan, she has grown into a strong warrior in her own right. Fighting had never been her thing; though when threats came knocking and risked the lives of her friends, she did not hesitate to step up to the plate and protect them. With the deaths of some of those friends, in battle and by suicide, her focus and goal has become clear- to fight on and ensure that no one has to suffer as her or her friends had ever again!

At age 17, her adventure continues heading into the Scarlet Dawn Saga. Having become a free agent in a world overrun with conflict, she will come face to face with a past that has haunted her mentor for centuries. A kingdom on the brink of war with the native Drachen populace, under the thumb of corrupt politicians, and led astray by the Vampire Cult. This venture will not be easy as she faces not only the forces of evil; but her own walled past as well.

The fate of this book-loving warrior is yet to be determined; but one thing is for certain- she will not give in until the very end!!

The Past

Elise was raised within the Drachen Clan of Vulfax from a young age, deep in the mountains of the Yukon. Drachen, the humanoid descendants of Dragons. She learned at a very young age how to pull her weight for- as a woman, she was looked down upon by default within her clan, on top of being used as free labor.

Regardless of her upbringing she was ever the pacifist, unwilling to lift a sword to fight, born perhaps from wishing to be the opposite of her oppressive people. She instead grew up with a preference for using her mind to resolve problems, and in time this led to her picking up reading to research more and more. Learning medicine, learning strategy, learning the lay of the land, learning how to be 'human'.

Even with her isolation at an early age, she would go on to make a few friends among the youth of Vulfax- even befriending one of the clan's higher ups by the name of Vulper. Throughout her youth she sharpened her mind, and increased her strength as she ventured out from home to bring back hauls from miles away. And as she grew she would also regularly visit the nearby town of Emerton, both for her own benefit and to spy on behalf of her clan.

Despite the hard work, it was a life well and truly worth living; though as she grew older, by the time she was in her mid-teens the discrimination had amplified many fold. By the time of Embers of the Past her friends were regularly being assaulted in the same ways as her, physically and mentally.

It was the result of certain 'incidents' that she broke her pacifist stance in order to become stronger to protect those she held dear. With encouragement from Vulper and guidance from the Emerton Librarian "Holly Bell" through books, she would grow into a fine combatant using her built up strength and her acquired knowledge. In time however, she would be forced from her home, forced to make a choice, forced to confront that which she had dreaded for so long.

The Present

Many an event has transpired since her turning point. She now wields power; though she no longer serves Vulfax. She now is a part of a world far bigger than the life she lived back in the Yukon. She now wanders the Realm of Illumia as a Mercenary, taking on jobs that appeal to her sense of justice, her sense of right and wrong. Her goal to help people so they no longer have to suffer is striking strong.

Heading into the Scarlet Dawn Saga Elise will come up against much more than she ever dreamed in the pursuit of that goal. The quest to defend others, and to bring justice to those who brought dread down upon her clan is far from even begun.

As she goes forward she will encounter the mechanics of a new plan, a plan that threatens to topple a nation just as Vulfax had nearly been. The Nation of Sarzento, built upon a history of conquest and subjugation, now faces revolts from its native Drachen tribes. Some say it is the Drachen themselves, others believe it to be linked to the rise of the Vampiric in the area. With no sides of this uprising seeking compromise, the outcome and reality of a full blown war seems inevitable.

Time is ticking for Elise to stop this plot and save the lives of many; but she must tread carefully for it is not only the corrupt politicians who are actively speeding up the clock. Eager eyes from afar seek to prop up their own victors regardless of the cost.
