I wake up, dragging myself out of my bed. I hear my guinea pigs squeeking in delight. "Give us food!" They squeek. I sigh, kneeling down to their cage. Suddenly, I get a feeling. It tingles on my back, making me shiver for a moment. A disturbance. I touch the ground, and I feel blood flow out of my finger and onto the floor, creating a portal. I jump into the portal, weary of any long falls. I land smoothly on a field of grass. I look around, and see a garden nearby. But I feel that something is off with the lonely garden. There's another presense. Then I see it. A shadow. It looms around. I frown. "Hello?" I ask. The shadow runs off. "Wait!" I yell. There's something inside me that wants to catch it. Something that I couldn't quite understand. I was connected to it, in a way. The area is vast and seemingly endless, so I always can see the shadow. Yet, I could never catch it. After a while, I fall to the ground, my knees sinking. I struggle to regain my strength. Then, I realize why I had wanted to chase it: I get a flashback from this alternate world.
I'm back in my room again, and I see my guinea pig on the floor. I try to pick it up, but it turns into the shadow and runs away. My eyes widen. My guinea pig-why had it left? What did I do? The miriad of things I had done poison my memory. I never gave it my best for them-and they knew that. I only know that from now on, things got to change.
I get up again, my strength returning. I see the shadow looming in the distance once more. If I can tame it once, I can do it again. I run after it. It runs away, but I get the strength I need to catch up to it. I have to do it for my guinea pig. I grab onto the shadow, almost piggy back riding it. "I promise I'll do better!" I shout. Then, it turns back into a guinea pig in my hands. I hold it tightly against myself. I create another portal, and we jump into the real world. I put it back into it's cage, where it and it's cage mate again ask for food. I laugh for a moment, before giving them a treat. I made a promise, and now I better keep it.
