"Shh it's one from upstairs!"
"Don't wake her!"
I opened my eyes. Colours surrounded me as my eyes started to focus. I was in a dark area and masks surrounded me.
"SHE OPENED HER EYES!" someone screamed.
In front of my eyes, there was a giant yellow skull.
"AM I DEAD?" I screamed, fear burning up inside of me.
No, no, no I couldn't be dead! I had to finish writing. My friends needed me!
"Oh of course not! Or well, not yet!" A fluttery voice said interrupting me from my freaking out.
It was familiar. Like I had heard it a million times from where though? Those questions all flew out of my head once I saw who the voice belonged to.
"EMILY?"
I was shocked. In front of me was my comfort character. Blue skin and all. It was Emily from the Corpse Bride. I looked around and started to notice other characters. The guy with a weird head who sang the first few songs, that kid, even the dude who split in half. Oh my god. I was in the movie.
"You know my name? You are such a good fiance! Victor must have told you everything before leading you here," she explained.
My mind was back to reeling. Fiance? Victor? Leading? I needed to ask questions.
"What do you mean I was led here? Also, how are we finances? Why are you dead?" I asked.
The last question was really to make sure I was actually in the movie. Victor says something like that and my favourite song in the movie then plays. I sort of hoped it would happen.
"Why is she dead ya say...well why do we have a story for you!"
Ohhh it was happening! They were going to sing it for me. This was such a dream come true!
Those few minutes whizzed by in a second. Filled with music and dead people was amazing. Even changed the lyrics so it would work for me. Instead of her getting married to Victor in the song it was changed so apparently she was meant to but apparently, he said someone else was better suited. Then "I" was chosen as I was the first person he saw. Emily was just happy to have a fiancee so she just went for it. It was crazy how good the lyrics were too. They still managed to fit everything to the tune. I was quite impressed.
"I get it I think..." I mumbled.
It was all still quite confusing but I wasn't that much bothered. The younger me would have been elated over this so I decided it would be better to embrace that instead of the fear.
Though only one other question started forming in my head. Wasn't this like the 1800's? Shouldn't Emily be disgusted that I was a woman? Shouldn't everyone be upset? I had to know.
"WAIT! I'm a woman! How are none of you guys upset?" I asked.
"Oh dearie, we're all dead! No one cares about that. Especially with dear Emily, she's waited so long for this so we refuse to let our old values get in the middle of this joyous celebration," a skeleton said from the corner.
I guess that made sense. So long as I wouldn't get my head lopped off or something.
"You also look enough like a man so if we ever go upstairs no one will suspect a thing!" Emily chimed in after coming over to grasp my hand.
Was I meant to be happy over that fact? I guess it didn't matter. So long as we could get married. I wouldn't let anything else stop me from that. Until another disruption came just as Emily and I were walking out of the bar.
"There's something wrong with this marriage! She's not dead." I heard a croaky voice yell.
Emily and I stopped and looked back at the voice. It was the old guy from the movie! his small skeleton chased after us. I had forgotten he existed what was his name...
"Elder Gutknecht, whatever do you mean? Mira and I need to get married," Emily exclaimed panic in her voice.
It made sense. This was an issue in the movie and it would be here. I had to die and become one of the blue people here while waiting for my skin to disintegrate. We would also have to go upstairs to the world of the living. Where I would die and get married to Emily.
I was too busy pondering to nice Emily's boney hand gripping me and her shaking. She was panicking asking if I would really go. While the elder just stared at me. Waiting.
"I-I'll do it," I said making my life-changing decision.
Emily looked into my eyes and smiled. It made me smile back at her. Excitement brewed within me. I was going to get married! Not only was it in one of my favourite movies but my childhood crush as well! There was no way this wasn't a dream but I decided not to let that bother me.
Spiders and others from this place surrounded me singing the last song of the movie. The wedding song. I was surrounded by fabrics and spider silk as they slowly weaved a web around me creating a tuxedo top with the fluffiest skirt you would have ever seen under me. It was beautiful. The skirt was black to go with the jacket and it was all so beautiful. I had barely any time to admire myself before I was whisked away for the older lady skeletons to play with my short hair giving me a wreath like my future wife's. Dead baby breath, peonies and roses were stuck into my hair weaving a beautiful crown. In the few seconds, I got to see myself I looked like I stepped out of a fairy tale. But I was then lifted up and taken upstairs to the church of the living. Humans scattered everywhere screaming and I got to see glimpses of more of my favourite characters. The entirety of the town barged into the church.
I was lined up at the front of the church. I was so thankful for the younger me learning the vows for this movie. Or else I would have been stuffed and my dreams would have been unfulfilled. But as Emily walked down the aisle I noticed the spiders had also fixed her dress. She looked divine.
As she made her way to the top I recited the vows in my head. The song she walked down to was an absolutely iconic song. The one Victor and Victoria play at the beginning then the song is played between Victor and Emily. It represented love within the story. This was my dream wedding. From that song being played to the fact that I would actually be able to say these vows at my wedding.
Emily got to where I was standing. She looked nervous. I was too but didn't want it to show at all. I was asked to take a step forward as a liquid was poured into the third goblet. It was the poison. I took a deep breath and lifted the goblet to my lips and took a drink.
The poison hit me instantly. A slight pain in my heart and then I fainted for the second time today.
"Oh hun wake up," Emily exclaimed.
Someone was shaking me as I started waking up. Emily's face was right in front of me and was smiling wider than I could ever imagine.
"Look! Look at your hand! You're dead!"
I did look at my hands. it had changed from the brown I normally was to a blue colour. The same as Emily. I really was dead and could actually get married. So I was brought back to my feet and we completed our vows. 137Please respect copyright.PENANAidxrmB1Gqk
"With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine"
I really hope you enjoyed this! It's my first time writing a fan fiction or well whatever this story is. But I had a lot of fun writing it thank you for making this contest!
