(defo a violence and gore warning idk if car crashes need a tw but there is a car crash so yeah)
Simon was dead. He was in the driver’s seat, his neck snapped forward, blood dripping from his open mouth.
I was in the passenger seat, horrified. The crash wasn’t too bad, I was unharmed. But we were in a rush, he must have forgot to put on a seatbelt.171Please respect copyright.PENANArLAA7mvEab
As I watched his lifeless body, I cried, knowing that this was my fault. I was responsible for my husband’s death.
So I decided to do something that I swore I would never do again. The next week, the day before Paul’s funeral, I went to my grandfather’s house. My grandfather was dead now, but in his will, he left me the house for one reason.
The attic. If you went past the dirty cobwebs and mountains of boxes, you’d find a small, red box containing two wristbands.
My grandfather would always call these Timebands, his own creation he worked for decades to create.
What do they do? Well, they send you back in time. Just flip to the time you want to go to, and it’ll send you there.
Me and my grandfather went on all sorts of adventures, from stowing away on a pirate ship, to rocking in the 60s, to even seeing the dinosaurs.
If you went to a time where you were alive, you would just replace yourself for as long as you were there, so no worries about bumping into yourself and potentially ripping a hole in the space time continuum.
I took a deep breath, and typed in the date of the crash, about 30 minutes before we left. I hoped it worked. I hadn’t time travelled for years, especially not on my own. I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. I squeezed my eyes shut and pressed the ‘Go’ button.
I opened them and I was in my house, on my sofa. Simon was next to me. I snuggled up to him and gave him a hug.
”I love you!”
He smiled at me and gave me a kiss. I wanted him to know I loved him, incase my plan didn’t work.
He checked his watch and jumped up, alarmed.
“I’m going to miss my meeting! Come on, let’s go!”
”Is it that important? Do you really need to go?”
”Yes, this determines whether I get the promotion or not! Get your jacket on, we need to go!”
No. No . No. This was not good. I anxiously looked across the room, was there anyway I could get him to not leave?
A box of push pins were stood on the coffee table, I grabbed one and went outside to the car.
I poked many holes in each tire, until they were all flat and threw the push pin far away. Simon came out and ran to the car. I got in too.
Just as planned, the car didn’t move. Simon got out and saw the flat tires.
”The tires are flat!”
”Oh no! What are we going to do?”
”Let’s catch a train. We have enough time. Plus, trains are quicker.”
” Okay, babe!”
We went to the train station and jumped on the first train to his work town we could see.
I almost cried once we got on the train. Simon was alive. He was going to his meeting, he would get his promotion. He would be happy he was doing well, I would be happy he was just alive.
In my head, I thought, ‘Thank you, Grandpa.’ Without him, my life would be incomplete, lonely. He made me happy. He kept Simon alive.
