It was dark. Too dark for anyone to be here at this time of night. I had two choices: I could leave, and miss out on the chance of getting what I came here for, and I would be safer, or I could continue on- but risk my life in the process. Alas, this is what I must accomplish. Everyone I knew was counting on me to do this. I forced myself to move my feet and carry on. I gripped my sword in front of me. Suddenly, big, golden gates stood before me. I stood to look around me. I was alone. Lost in the darkness of my fear and sorrowfulness. I cautiously stepped forward, towards the golden gates. I reached my hand out, but before I could touch the gates, they opened. A giant array of golden lights burst through the inside of the gates. I flinched back, away from the blinding light.
The light softened, and in front of me stood a single swan. A black swan. It was odd, I’d never seen a swan in that color before. And yet, it was marvelously beautiful at the same time. It stared at me with its beady, golden eyes. Something in the light behind it called for me. It’s like I was meant to be there. I slowly walked forward, my legs shaking the way there. My sword dropped to the ground. I walked all the way until I stood only a few feet from the mythical creature. He spread out his wings and looked up at me.
Inside of the room sat a mighty throne, and guards of all species stood around it. As well as Mark,Amira, McKenna, and Aseth. Julie was tied up and on her knees. And Ruth was standing beside the throne. On the arm of the throne sat a black, beautiful crown. They all stared at me, waiting for me to sit on the throne. I moved forward towards the throne and looked behind me where the swan followed. I turned and sat on the golden throne. My hands gripped the black crown and placed it on my head. Julie looked at me and growled through the tape covering her mouth.
“Get rid of the traitor.” I pointed to Julie. Two guards stood up Julie and exited through the gates. Aseth and I made eye contact then. He smirked and moved to bow, as well as the rest of our friends along with the guards. Butterflies flew through my stomach. I cleared my throat, hushing the rest of the guards. The swan flew up to sit on my lap. I knew that my decision was risky and that I would have to fight, but I just couldn’t hold it back any longer. This is what I had to do.
“My first order as queen,”
I spoke out to them. “Send out armies to Eternia. Prepare for battle,” The guards gasped in shock at my demand. “And now for my second proposal,” I stood, a guard bowed to me with a single golden staff in his hand. I grabbed it hesitantly. “Send Guardsmen to the King of Eternia. Tell him to let all of our people that he had put into slavery go, or face the consequences of all of the armies of Amberia.”
