Chapter 1: To be Ignored is the Worst Punishment to Man
It was Katsuki Bakugou's birthday, but he didn't want anyone to know. God forbid he let others think he was soft or sentimental. The thought of everyone fawning over him or showering him with gifts made his skin crawl. So, he devised a plan to avoid all the attention — to disappear for the day.
Early that morning, Katsuki woke up before the sun had even risen. He had carefully set his alarm, ensuring it wouldn't disturb his roommate, Kirishima. The fiery explosion hero-in-training was rough around the edges, but surprisingly considerate when it came to Katsuki's private moments.
As Katsuki got ready, putting on his usual red and black hero costume, he couldn't help but let a small smirk grace his face. Today would be different. Today, he wouldn't be forced to face the disingenuous smiles and hollow pleasantries of his classmates. He was free.
Taking one last glance in the mirror, Katsuki headed out the door, the intense determination in his eyes reflecting the fire that burned within him. He knew he had to make the most of his temporary freedom, and that meant isolating himself from everyone he knew.
The day was a blur as Katsuki wandered the streets of the bustling city. He observed the crowds, their mindless chatter, and their obliviousness to the world around them. It was oddly soothing, being surrounded by people who were too preoccupied with their own lives to care about him. Finally, he felt invisible in a way that didn't trigger his explosive anger.
His intended punishment, however, started to feel like a double-edged sword. He couldn't deny that the lack of attention was refreshing, but a part of him longed for acknowledgement. Deep down, Katsuki desired recognition for his hard work, his determination, and his unwavering spirit. But admitting that to himself was a tough pill to swallow.
Hours passed, and the sun began its descent. Katsuki found himself near a small park, its trees casting long shadows on the ground. He decided to take a break and sat on a bench, watching children play as their parents watched from a distance. It should have been a typical, uneventful sight, but something caught his attention.
A young boy sat alone on a swing, his shoulders slumped and sadness etched on his face. Katsuki's gaze lingered on him, intrigue and empathy intertwining within him. He recognized that look all too well. To be ignored, rejected, and isolated — it was a punishment he knew too intimately.
Without giving it much thought, Katsuki approached the boy, an unfamiliar warmth seeping into his heart. The child looked up, startled by the sudden presence. Despite his intimidating appearance, Katsuki didn't have the heart to carry his usual harsh demeanor.
"Hey kid, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice surprisingly gentle.
The boy's eyes widened, uncertain whether to trust the stranger or not. However, something in Katsuki's piercing gaze reassured him. He hesitated for a moment before pouring out his troubles.
"I...I wanted to play with the other kids, but they said they didn't like me," the boy confessed, his voice laden with sadness.
Katsuki couldn't help but remember the countless times he had been excluded, mocked, and belittled throughout his childhood. Those memories stung, but they also fueled his determination to become the greatest hero. No one should have to experience what he did.
With a soft smile, Katsuki extended his hand towards the young boy. "You know what, kid? You don't need their approval. You're strong, and you deserve better. Let's show them how wrong they are."
Surprised yet hopeful, the boy's eyes sparkled with a renewed sense of courage. He took Katsuki's outstretched hand, and together, they walked towards the playground, prepared to defy the judgment of others.
Little did they know, this unexpected encounter would change the trajectory of their lives and teach them the true power of empathy, even in the face of loneliness.67Please respect copyright.PENANATYz6HLrZLy
