15th century France. It's hard to explain why I would be looking for someone who's already dead, only to bring them back to the living and give them a proper trial. But I don't ask questions to my clients.
I amble through the pristine forests along the scat-covered road. I didn't realize medieval times were so filthy. I imagined marvelous castles and the yellow brick road that Dorothy walked upon. This is...not it.
Don't expect everything to be perfect, Beta. I think. Charlotte is insane. Sure, she's dead, and she was arrested and sent to death for being a witch, but how did she think this would possibly work? If I can't get back to the future for a proper trial, then I have to give a refund. And I refuse to give another refund. Not after my last time machine broke and I was stuck in 1946. 223Please respect copyright.PENANAP68MaBzubg
I sigh, gathering my breathe. I feel like I'm suffering every time I take a breathe. At least it smelled better back in 1946, even with the smoking. 223Please respect copyright.PENANAcIeakqx5py
I have to carry my dress so that I don't fall over it, and so that I can see where my feet are actually going. I refuse with all my might to step on any week-old horse dung.223Please respect copyright.PENANAklVn2qyhAI
Suddenly, I hear a noise. A chariot with a brave knight storms through the pathway. I dive to the bushes. It goes right past me. I stop for a moment, trying to calm my racing heart. I step back onto the pathway, only to see another one come by. It stops by me.
Inside, is a man who isn't a knight. He's still a noblemen-his outfit is colorful and strangely amusing. I keep myself from laughing. He also has a trimmed beard and short but sleek black hair. His blue eyes narrow at me.
I turn on my translator. I'll understand them, and they won't hear my real voice. "Hello, Madam. What brings you on the road all alone?" He asks.
"Hello, Monsiuer. I-I'm heading to town. It's taken quite a while, I didn't expect to lose my horse from a band of thieves." I respond. He outstretches his hand. "My goodness. I hope you are alright. Thieves are plenty in this area." He looks around, as if trying to spot something that isn't there. "And witches. I've got plenty in my day, and there will be many more apprehended until these good lands are no longer stained by the devil's hand. Anyway, do you want me to take you there?"223Please respect copyright.PENANAYsa0YWw1BY
I nod, and I grab his hand to get up. As we go by in our chariot, I realize that the man looked familiar. Charlotte never told me the name of the person she was looking for. She said he took too many to count, and many different faces as well. But the blue eyes and black hair are all too familiar. I think I found the person I'm looking for.
Suddenly, he turns to look at me. I look away, but he grabs my chin and makes my eyes stare into his. "Your voice sounds off, Madam." Suddenly, something strange happens. He stops guiding the horse. The horse stops, and then dissapears. His hand starts to burn bright, like a torch.
"I can see a witch from a mile away. They're all alone. All hidden, their expressions devoid of any godly soul. It's very common, within a woman's nature, indeed, to display some semblance of fear and inwardness amongst men. But you aren't fearing, madam. You're plotting."
Roots start to rise from the ground, and they grab my arms. I try to make them let go, but they grab my legs as well. I can't run anymore. I scream as loudly as I can, but the roots start to wrap around my neck. I flail, with no success. I stare in awe of his power.
"God gave me these gifts to use against the devil. I must do what I must do." He walks to the side for a moment, and then suddenly, something much more terrifying emerges from the ground.
