Zia ran up the steep hill, her twin trailing behind her. Zia had pale skin that was beautiful against the pristine white dress. The dress had a standard neckline that lead to a flow of ruffles and frills that fell a couple centimetres above her ankles. Zias snow white hair fell halfway down her back, the girl almost looked like a ghost in the fading sunlight behind her.
Zillas dark skin and black dress made her look like a silhouette paired with her pitch black hair, the twins couldn’t look more different. The two began to climb the large willow tree that guarded the crest of the hill.
“GET DOWN FROM THERE THIS INSTANT!” Their mother demanded from the ground
“But mama-“ Zia started
”NO! YOU TWO ARE GOING TO CLIMB DOWN RIGHT NOW!”
”Ok mama.” Zilla whispered as she began to lower herself to the ground, Zia following.
As soon as the two where on the ground their mother grabbed one of each of their arms and half dragged the five year olds to the house. The twins where lead to the dining table and sat at their respective seats, which where on opposed sides of the table. Not being allowed to be close to each other sucked but of course, since the twins where five, they didn’t realise the danger of being within close proximity.
“You two are gonna kill me one day.” Bec sighed.
”But I love you mama.” Zilla gasped.
”Not kill in that way, kill like……kill me by being trouble makers.” Bec attempted.
”B-but I love m-mama.” Zia started crying.
”Honey, no, it’s okay.” Bed walked over and placed a hand on her daughters back, waving Zilla away when she began to make her way around the huge table. Zilla obediently sat back down, tracing her finger along the carvings in the birch wood. Bec belonged to the light. It was unheard of to have a child of Light and one of Darkness, specially if their father wasn’t present.
“Sue!” Bec called.
”Yes Ma’m?” Sue, the house keeper, ran in.
”Some dinner would be great right now.”
”Of course Ma’m”
Soon after the house keeper left, she was back with a feast worth of food that would be able to serve twenty people, along with the few that would want seconds. Zillas’ black eyes bore into the food along with Zias’ white eyes as it was served to her mother first. Only a few more seconds………..
A explosion rang through the air as black and white smoke curled around the tantalising food, delivering their share to the two girls, who tuck in as soon as it reached their plates. But in their hunger fuelled frenzy they missed their mother sinking down in defeat as the realisation hit her, they couldn't be together, not even close to one other.
