I could finally close my eyes and relax. I slept for a long time that day. Perhaps, I was too tired after my last mission. I made sure to get my health back during those days so I could eventually return to work. After all, I was still the best agent for the company. Sometimes, weird thoughts surrounded my head, Am I even worthy of this? This all seemed like a dream to me. Like I didn't deserve this. Like I still had the fire in me to follow my real passion. My heart wanted to quit everything and start a new life. But at the same time, my mind wanted more fame in the company. The human mind is certainly an interesting piece of art.
My name is Dan Wilder. I'm a hot shot worker at the Agensify company. The name's weird, right? It dealt with the evils that should not venture in the real world. It worked to maintain the normal life of people. You must've guessed till now that I'm not happy from working here but there's a reason I was there. My father owned the company. Too predictable? At this point, you might be thinking that this is just another typical story about how I survive in this company or something related. But on the contrast, this book is not based on my life.
I laid on my bed and rested my eyes for a while till the sun rays hit my eyes. I leaned over to check the time which seemed to be around 5AM. My body ached too much for me to stand. It was tired from the mission I just completed the previous night. Suddenly, my alarm began to ring as it was time for me to get up to go to the company. Outraged, I turned my alarm off and slept even with the room filled with lights. Maybe I finally got peace.
I woke up to find myself tucked into the sheets of my bed. The time was around 3PM and my body aches were gone. It was a miracle! I heard some footsteps reaching the door of my room. As the door opened, I was astonished to see a lady with fuzzy, black hair and vibrant, dark colored eyes. She wore work clothes and looked professional.
"Good Morning, Sleeping Beauty! Dress up and I'll bring you lunch." she said with her captivating voice. "I hear the door bell rang, I'll check it while you get ready." and she went away, closing the door behind her. Sleeping beauty? Bringing me lunch? What was happening?
The time passed, I ate lunch at the table while she sat across my seat. After finishing my food, I couldn't help but ask, "Who are you? What are you doing here? Who sent you? Wh-" She cut my questions off. "I know you might have a lot of questions roaming around your head right now. Give it a while, all your questions shall be answered." As she said this, I pretty much thought she was a lunatic with a pretty face. That is how women get to conquer a man's space. Anywayz, she lead me into the living room. It seemed as if it was her house and I was the guest. "Can you stop with the staring for some time? It was fine at first but it's freaking me out now." she said uncomfortably. I didn't realize that I had been staring at her ever since lunch so I apologized and looked down at the floor.
A man in a white coat entered the room and sat on the sofa in front of me. "Had a good sleep, Wilder?" I nodded on the question. "I'm the head of the department you work in. Of course you have not seen me since I don't meet my workers. I had the doctor check on you while you were asleep. The doctor said you have severe fatigue and prescribed you to get as much rest as you can for about a few days." I could not process the whole thing. My mind seemed numb. Head? Doctor? Rest? What is all this? Had my prayers been finally answered?
"I talked to your father and he agreed on letting you stay off from the company for about a month. And this is not because I care about my workers. This is because I care about the company. If you are not well, you will not be able to do your job competently which will eventually result in a bad reputation to the company...." He said a few other stuff that my ears were tired to listen to his boring voice. I kept nodding and nodding till he finally said, "I'll go now."
I waved my hand at both of them as they left. I was alone at my house again but this time, It was freedom. Even if it is for a month, It's freedom! I danced around the house and made myself a really cozy area to chill. I was finally free. But what would they do about the company partnership coming up? MEH! Why do I care?! I continued to live a normal life. Things couldn't get better!
