Don't force yourself to become close to people who don't value you for who you are. It can be easy to become attached to the first person who gives you attention, especially if you've had to deal with self-esteem issues for a large portion of your life, but if you can't be yourself around them, that instant satisfaction will turn into long term pain and regret. If spending time around someone hurts you more than it heals you, maybe you should consider re-evaluating your relationship with them. On the flip side, don't expect people to change for you and act like you're god's great gift to earth. If you're expecting everybody to change for you, maybe you're the person that needs to change.
