The trees rustled against the wind. Clouds of bats flew over the forest. And I was surrounded by a puddle of blood. I wanted to give up. It wasn't worth fighting for, but the rain in the night hit my muscles, reminding me to stand still.
"You've chosen the wrong side, Siya."
He dawdled towards me with a smile on his face, walking over the dead bodies that lay around us.
"I didn't expect you to be dumb," he said, twirling his sword, "We would have been better. Better than all of these lowly beings. Why did you have to choose that loser over me?"
I stepped back with each step he took. My breath hitched as the cold water plunged faster from the sky. I saw him through a haze. Blood trickled down my knees, and I struggled to walk. My stomach knotted itself a thousand times at the sight of him. His drenched hair, as it was when I first saw him, made him look appalling.
"But it's not too late, is it? You can come to me. I'll forgive you for what you have done. After all, you belong with me, don't you?"
His maniac laugh infused the air. He abruptly stopped advancing, "So what are you waiting for? Tell me what you should!" he yelled.
My legs gave in, and my knees hit the ground, "You can't expect me to bow down to you when I am alive, you monster," I gritted, remembering what he did to the people around us.
I looked up. Eyes maddened with rage, he looked back at me with contempt, "I will rescue Dezmond and watch your reign crumble to smithereens," I told him.
He snickered, "Very well then. Let me see how close you get to winning with him next to you," he threw his sword down, "Just remember, I will not show mercy anymore, so play like your life depends on it."
He knelt, and we were face to face, "You can show me all you've got, but in the end, I will crush him, and you'll have nowhere else to return but to me."
"We'll see about that," I chuckled, trying to look into his eyes. I would never forfeit to him, even if I was wrenched off of everything I had once worshipped. He stood and moved away from me, "Adios, my dumb little girl," he said before he vanished.
The rain streaked at me. The water patted my back as I fell on my stomach. I felt all of my energy draining each second. I can't let myself be defeated. At least not before I see Dezmond. I need to ask him what this is all about. My vision blurred, and I reluctantly closed my eyes, letting the darkness blind me.
