I don't see red or blue or green.

red like the gingerbread tin sitting on the shelf

blue like the pretzel bag sitting in the cabinet

green like the snapple sitting in my car

I don't see black or white or grey.

black like the cord plugged into the wall

white like the unread book by my bed

grey like the hoodie pulled tight around my head

I don't see purple or orange or yellow.

purple like the water bottle i bought on impulse

orange like the rubber toy i've kept since childhood

yellow like the chapstick i really ought to wear

I don't see red -

red like the anger i bury in the yard

- or blue -

blue like the tears i never let fall

- or green -

green like the bruises that glitter on my hands

- or black -

black like the pain i tell myself not to feel

- or white -

white like the rings i throw away

- or grey -

grey like the losing side of this war

- or purple -

purple like the necklace that you gave to me

- or orange -

orange like the flower petals laid on the grave

- or yellow.

yellow like the friendship you said you'd never leave.
