You have just returned home from work. As usual, someone didn't do the job correctly, so you had to stay late to fix it. However, as soon as you reach your door, you make a shocking discovery.
Your door was unlocked and slightly opened! You look around at your neighbor's houses to see if they were burglarized too. After noticing they weren't, you realized someone intruded into your home while you were at work.
You walk over to your neighbor's house to see if they are home. As you get closer to their house, you look over at your house and see a shadow standing in one of the windows. Scared, you run onto your neighbor's steps and almost into their door.
You raise your hand into a fist, but as you do, the door opens. Standing in the front doorway, your neighbor looks you in the eyes and says, "Didn't you just ask me something?"
Filled with confusion, you look at her and tell her how you just got home from work. She frowns at you and accuses you of lying.
She then starts talking about how you came to her about an hour ago saying how much you didn't want to live there anymore and how you're now unemployed.
You look at her, confused, and say you like living here and have a job. She looks at you and tells you to make up your mind with what you want.
You look her dead in the eyes and tell her that you just got off work, so you can't be the person she talked to. She looks puzzled and says, "But she looked just like you." You turn away and start to leave.
You look up at your house, you notice that there is no longer a shadow in the window. You can still hear your neighbor saying, "Everything, down to the clothes."
Turning towards your house, you cut across your garden. Right when you reach the door, it slams and locks shut.
You start to bang on the door, asking to be let in. The curtain moves slightly as you try to bang on the door.
Whatever is inside your house is not letting you in. So, you reach into your purse and pull out your phone.
Upon looking at your phone, you start to realize something. This phone isn't yours. The name on the case says "Ashley" but your name isn't Ashley.
You unlock the phone and look at the background picture. It looks just like you, but you know it isn't you.
You decide to enter the contacts and see one titled "ME".
You look at the number and start to recognize it. It is your number. You dialed your number and it picked up! A voice that sounds just like yours answers the call.
You ask the person why they have your phone. The person sounds confused as they tell you they've had it since they were younger. You insist they're lying and that the phone belongs to you.
They hung up the call. You left them a voicemail saying your phone displays "Ashley," which isn't your name, as it might be theirs.
You start crying as you remember that you can't get into your house. Just then, you hear a click from your door.
You walk up to the door and push it open. You look around, but everything is where it was. Nothing was stolen, which you are glad for. Everything seemed good until you got to your room.
Inside your room, on your dresser, sat your phone. The very phone that someone just answered from.
Now scared, you picked up the phone and looked at it. You checked the call history and saw that the phone hadn't been used. You were now confused because you were certain that you had just called the phone and talked to someone.
You pick up the phone and place it in your bag. Then you pull out "Ashley's phone" and examine it.
You try your best to figure out who the phone belongs to but get frustrated before you get far. You lie in bed and tug the blankets over you, hearing a loud crash. The sound resonates through your house, and you leap up to catch what caused it.
You turn the lights on in your bedroom and quickly scan the room.
Nothing out of the ordinary here.
You run into your bathroom and turn the lights on.
There's nothing out of the ordinary here, either.
You then go to your kitchen and find a pan on the ground that had fallen from an overhead hanger, so you start to check for any possible way it could have gotten loose. You wondered how it could have dropped, as it was secured and required someone to remove it themselves.
Panicked, you think that someone might still be in your house, and then remember that you never found the person who let you in your home in the first place.
As the panic rushes through your system, you call your parents for comfort. You mentioned Ashley during the call. Your mother, on the other end of the phone, sighed and revealed the existence of a twin sister you never knew.
Her name was Ashley, and she was coming to visit you so you two could finally meet. You sighed a breath of relief and hung up the call.
Then you realized something.... what was the situation with the phone then? You never did find out the answer to that question. But you did meet your amazing sister the next morning.
