Melded with the shadow of the hunting grounds--a bustling metropolis, the tallest of the structures could see the woods near the edge of the city--the hunter lurked. Lately she was hunting more and more, her job in the hospital made this only slightly easier.
Wearing a coat with a hood and a knife in her pocket, and with earbuds plugged into a droning audio device, she was ready for a stealthy kill and vanishing act, her target was Arthur Cal, a twenty-year-old heir who she had been stalking for a week by now, she knew he loved plays, was a fencer by nature, and was actually blonde, though he dyed his hair jet black.
She watched him from the hospital windows and in the mall, she learned his habits, that he liked tea in the morning in the cafes, long strolls through old neighborhoods during the evening, and in the morning he found his way back home, on a bench under a tree to watch the sun rise, afterward he would don a cap and follow the whim of the day.
Her hand found her pocket and slipped the knife handle into her hand, stepping a little faster, catching up to him as quietly as she could, and leaped forward, drawing her blade as she landed just a step behind him, sending him down. Suddenly footfalls splashed ahead, racing further on, she started to follow, but her foot was caught by her victim. She turned around, only to find an empty cloak behind her, and raced ahead, only to see a young man sporting jet black hair board a train, on the far end of the station, a theater ticket in hand as the train moved forward, his lips noticeably red.
She clenched her teeth and started back to where she had caught the decoy, looking at her dagger for the first time since she dropped it into her pocket earlier, it was clean and reflected her blue eyes, the moon shining overhead, when her thoughts were interrupted by another voice's thoughts.
"So, Arthur had a ghost as his decoy? He's well-connected, after all, but I never expected this and he's apparently fed since he lost us...whenever that was." she nodded wordlessly into the telepathic link and returned the hook tipped blade to her pocket, taking up the coat as well, "We'll need to figure out where he's going, that train was never part of the plan...but I guess he's afraid you'll expose him as the vampire. I guess you want to find the body first, huh, Erika?"
Erika nodded in reply, the body would be drained of blood, she was sure two deep red puncture wounds in the neck, so began her search.
