(꣑୧. . Twisting the golden doorknob, Mae lets out an exhausted yawn before announcing herself. "Guys I'm home!" She shouts shoving her shoes to the side with her white socks before making her way through the vast hallway.
Usually, mostly everyone is here around this time, but as Mae continues to knock and check people's rooms she discovers she is the only one here besides her sleeping father.
She quickly pulls out her cellular device and shoots her sibling group chat a text.

Mae slides her phone back into her pocket before grabbing her purse and jogging out the door. The streetlights illuminate the path for her as she tries to find her way to the convenience store.
This area is fairly new to her and the rest of the household, seeing as they've moved fairly recently. They have only ventured out a handful of times as they are preoccupied with work and getting the house together.
Ah, here she is at the quaint store.
She jogs up the steps before entering.
Mae is met with a petite male whose glasses sit upright upon his face before he bows quickly welcoming her into the store. She bows back politely before going to look for the noodles and snacks.
She hums a sweet tune as she hauls her things to the front ready to pay.
"Is this all for you?" He asks to begin to scan the items she has.
"Uh-huh," she smiles reaching into her purse for her wallet. She quickly pays waving goodbye at the sweet cashier with her items swinging on her arm.
Mae quickly texts her brothers that she has their snacks and is headed back to the house. With all her brothers being older than her, the overprotective stereotype is out of the roof. She goes to take out her headphones when she is suddenly stopped by a group of rowdy people.
One of the girls decides to pretend as if Mae is the cause of her cell slipping from her possession. "Watch where you're going!" Her shrill voice rings as she goes to pick up her cracked phone.
She whines as she flicks back her raven locks to get a better look at the broken phone. "Look what you did!" She shoves the phone in the timid girl's face.
Mae's nose scrunches up as she takes a step back, "I'm so sorry... I didn't notice you all."
"Sorry? That's not going to cut it. Pay me." The girl smacks her gum as she spreads her palm, ready to accept her compensation.
Mae had just spent money and she plans to reserve the rest for many materials for the latest dress she has begun to make. "I'm sorry... but this is all I have left. You can take this."
The girl snatches the bills and chuckles, "You must think I'm dumb." She approaches Mae, "Don't make me take it. Be a nice girl and give it to me."
"You can have the snacks, but I have no money to give you," Mae tries standing her ground.
"This bitch thinks I'm joking," the girl maliciously giggles as she looms over Mae.
Suddenly Mae is yanked backward by the pain in her scalp as she squirms in their hold. "If you don't want to pay us one way... we can think of another." His rank breath reaches her ears as his rough palm caresses her chest.
Her heart's rhythm picks up as fear courses through her, terrified at the thought of non-consensual touch. Mae's eyes shut on impact as she anticipates his touch, yet his hands never reach her.
"Who the fuck are you?"
A grunting whimper makes Mae's eyes anxiously flutter open to an interesting sight.
A tall frame littered with ink designs only to be weakly covered by a white tee paired with loose sweatpants. Her eyes shakily climb his frame as she inwardly gasps at his delicious features. His strong inclined eyebrows indicate his anger along with his clenched jaw. Her heart skips a beat as she fondly loses her grip on reality focusing on her savior. Yet the situation pulls her out of her sudden infatuation.
"Let her go, villains." The man's gruff voice escapes as he releases the fist.
The young boy scoffs as he scans the man's appearance. "I said who the fuck are you? You know her? Huh?"
"That doesn't matter, just back off." The mysterious man clenches his jaw as he stands his ground.
"Nah, she has some business with us. So why don't you just move along?" The boy gestures to his friends to stand by his side.
His dark eyebrows lower as his head swivels and his eyes fall on Mae's. "Do you know these villains?"
She meekly shakes her head hoping he didn't believe their lies.
He quickly nods facing them once again. "The little lady says differently, so go away."
A scoff is released into the night air as the main bully hardens his fist. "I said move out the way!" He launches his punch toward his face only for the taller man to dodge and land his fist on his cheek, launching him into the lamp post.
"Fuck!"
"Hey man, you alright?" His friends rush to his side as he cradles his throbbing cheek.
"No, fuck, go deal with that bastard!" He orders them to charge as his ego begins to undeniably die down.
The friends of the boy hurry to avenge him yet the man strikes them down gracefully with minimal effort. "I suggest you stop here, you villains." His gruff tone seeps underneath their skin as they accept their fate.
"Fuck you! We will get you and that bitch!" They throw their last attempt at a meaningful threat before grabbing their companions and fleeing away from the mysterious, strong man.
A deep sigh is released into the night air as the man slowly turns to face the cowering girl. "Are you okay?" Mae tilts her head to face the man with awestruck eyes.
The tall man appears taken aback by her sudden question. "I should be asking you that."
"I'm fine, thanks to you," she gratefully mutters staring up into his concerned eyes. Her starry eyes focus on the scarily, beautiful man before her.
"It's nothing, no need to thank me. Just doing what anybody else would do against those villains," he replies cooly as he catches his breath.
She doubles over as she releases a fit of giggles at his heroic spirit. His brows furrow from above as he catches concern at the sudden noise emitting from her, "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"
She waves him off and straightens her posture with a blossoming blush. "No, it's just the way you speak. You sound like a superhero, like Superman." The man suddenly becomes quiet at her comment just watching her.
"Well, I must get home I don't want them to worry. Thank you so much for saving me, could I have your number?"
"My number?"
"Yeah, so I can pay you back." Mae sheepishly responds, "You're being so kind to me."
The man stammers as he fumbles with his hands, reaching into his sweatpants for his phone. "You don't need to pay me back I promise."
"No, I insist, please," she pleads.
He hesitantly unlocks his cell phone before handing it to her. She quickly types in her number before typing in her name to save the contact and texting herself to get his number. "Mae?" He confusedly glances at the new contact name.
She nods, "Yes, that's my name. So don't forget it, and again thank you I really needed to save that money."
He nods as his cheeks suddenly flush pink, "Do- Do you need me to walk you home?"
She quickly waved her hands, turning down the offer. How shocked would her brothers be if she appeared at the house with a guy? Especially one that carries his appearance, she'd never hear the end of it. "No, no, that's okay I should be okay from here. Bye, thank you!" She quickly jogs away as the boy gawks at her appearing to be nervous at her goodbye.
He watches as she furthers the distance between them before she unexpectedly turns back and approaches him. Mae digs through the convenience store plastic bag before bashfully handing him a tiny milk carton. "Here you go until I can fully make it up to you."
Due to the scarce light, she can't see just how much the gesture affects him, but he tries to damper the rising feelings. He carefully takes the milk and watches her flee down the midnight road.
He glances down at the beverage in hand as a shaky smile breaks out.
His favorite.
