I swam to the surface of the sea, waves crashed around me, as I searched the rough waters. A blonde head popped up a few feet away. "Meri!" I screamed, swimming towards her. I could feel my limbs tiring against the relentless pounding of the waves against my body. I reached Meri and held her in my arms, treading water with my legs. Her eyes were closed but she was still breathing, her blonde curls swayed in the water. "Meri, wake up," I whispered, holding her close, "Please Meri, I need you."
"Oh, she won't wake up." A voice spoke.
"You!" I growled, adjusting my grip on Meri's body, "This is all your fault. "
"Oh is it now?" He asked, rising from the water, "Please explain." He was dressed in long, flowing black robes, and he glared leeringly at me. He was right, most of this was my fault. I had stolen the amulet, thinking it would save my kingdom from the plague, but I was dead wrong. Instead, this monster rose from the depths and had his demons slaughter my people. I had tried to stop it but it was too late. "Now because of you, Meri will never see the sun again." He roared as one of his demons jumped out of the water, ripping Meri from my hands.
"Meri! NO!" I shrieked. I tried to swim towards her but an unseen force stopped me.
"You will watch her get torn apart and realize your mistake." He said those words loud enough to be yelling, but the effect was dampened by a small evil smirk.
"No," I whimpered as the demon's claws hovered over Meri's throat. Suddenly, Meri coughed jolted up, stifling a scream when she found herself in the demon's grasp. Her sapphire eyes locked with mine, clouded with fear, "Nereida." she whispered as the demon's claws sliced through her throat, ending her life. I looked away as it began to devour her, it's teeth slicing through her skin.
The sea around began to blur. The last thing I remember was man smiling at me as the demon tore apart my friend before the world went black.
