“Damn damn damn.” Lucas pounded his fists into the steering wheel of the smashed up van.
15 seconds was all it took for things to turn into a shit show. What the hell was Mickey thing? Bringing a new guy in so close at the deadline. It was Ludacris. Greedy.
Lucas knew from experience that on a few occasions, a job ended with a bandit bleeding out his life on a sidewalk. The image of Mickey lifeless on the sidewalk, the heart pumping the blood out of him and down his tired body was haunting him. The cops did a number on him. Blood was everywhere.
The radio steered Lucas out of his gloomy thoughts and back into his harsh reality.
Warning! Lucas Monroe is wanted by the police. He is considered extremely dangerous. The person being chased by the police officers and is said to have robbed a bank with his brother and is running from the scene. Lucas chuckled dryly as the speaker in the radio gave out his description. They actually make me appear handsome.
He checked his face in the mirror. His face wasn't anything extraordinary or significant, but this moment he looked like a goddamn traffic accident. The dark circles around his eyes, his small hazel eyes that were lively, warm, and sparkled with bliss when he smiled were now dead cold fish eyes. His hair which was always neatly combed looked like a bird’s nest. And the blood! Oh God yes the blood. The blood on his face and clothes.
He couldn’t believe Mickey shot that guard, he could still feel the parts of his brains splattering all over his face. How the hell he had been able to make it out in the first place was a miracle. Somehow he had been able to slip out the back as Mickey went all “John Marston” on the people in the bank.
He had to cut back on the cocaine. It had a tendency to slur his judgment. Sure, it made him feel more energetic, confident and a euphoric high as it “came up”, but it left him depressed as hell.
He heard sirens in the distance and decided to leave the dying van behind. There was no way in hell he was going back to the joint.
He looked around he had no clue whatever to where he was. All he could think was to escape the cops. There was a lot of nature. Nature meant trees. Trees were good. It meant you could hide. But he had to get a move on. Those goddamn police dogs would sniff him out in no time.
He picked up whatever money he had managed to save from the robbery and started to trot across a field which smelled of dirt and moldy vegetables. He cursed as he almost slipped in some mud.
He jumped the fence, and crossed the field and came across a small river. His heart was throbbing in his chest and he stopped for a minute to wash the blood from his face. As he looked up and something across the river caught his attention. Something was shining and blinking almost like it wanted him to notice it. He felt like a blue jay as he tipped across the river. The shining object had him under a spell.
A key lay on the field like it was the most natural place in the world for a key to be.
Lucas stopped for a minute and scanned the field for its owner. Beside from a deer eating grass and a couple of birds’ circling the air for prey, not a whole lot was going on. Lucas picked it up feeling its coldness, but it didn't tell him much.
Somewhere out in the distance, he could hear sirens. He hated that sound more than anything in the world. He had to get a move on.
Out of nowhere, an old abandoned house towered up in front of him as he ran for his life. He was in a need of a break. His lungs were suffering from not receiving enough oxygen. An old rusty door served as the entrance to the house, but it was locked. Lucas remembered the key he found and searched his pocket. The key fitted perfectly into the keyhole and the door slid open. Lucas thought nothing of it. He was too tired and too concerned with the cops.
As Lucas entered the threshold he was caught by surprise. “Wtf?!” he uttered shakily as he realized where he was. He couldn’t believe his eyes. “Mickey?”
A couple of bullets instantly hit him tearing his chest apart. He was dead before he hit the ground.
Lucas slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He was shot dead, but yet here he was still alive.
As he realized where he was, he started to laugh insanely. The old rusty door, it would take him right back to Mickey, to the robbery. He could save him. Save the money. A sinister smile crept across his face. He could go on until he had killed every goddamn cop on the scene.
But as Lucas proceeded he dived deeper into the mouth of madness with the realization that no one can change the past.
Maniacally laughing and crying, Lucas, driven to madness, relived everything he just went through. Over and over and over…. His god-like status shattered
Somewhere in the distance dogs barked eagerly.
