Daylight dipped in hues of overflowing orange and browns captured Rosalie in awe. Exploring the ethereal beauty that was autumn made the cold air seem comfortable like the purple knitted scarf that hung around her neck. Her most beloved time of the year, Held strongly in her heart as the world’s ornamental gift. Disrupting her contemplation, a strand of fiery red highlights defied its position tucked under her beanie forcing the short girl to set aside her book to fidget with the unruly piece. Tall looming trees swaying in time to soundless music, they whispered among the loud happy cheers of passer-by’s on their daily commute to and fro.
“Is it okay if I sit here?” Voice of sugar sweet candy filled the air. In her haste to fix her hair she had stopped someone from a comfy rest on the dusty old park bench.
“Oh of course, sorry-“
“Reading out here was a great choice. I see you enjoy fall as much as I do.” The brunet stranger joined the daydreamer for the same reason: To soak in the peace. Rosalie only nodded as she quickly turned blushing from staring at the lady too long. Just like autumn, “she looks so beautiful, so perfect” played over and over echoing the same thing as she tried to bury her embarrassment.
While mumbles of shyness tumbled out, the calm acquaintance simply replied with: “Gorgeous.”
It was. It really was the most perfect time of year. Rain seemed to dance when it hailed from the sky and would leave reflections of faces which rippled away as children wearing bright yellow boots hopped along. Natural fragrances of damp dirt and wood along with the strong potent whiffs of cinnamon, coffee or hot chocolate was sent through your airways. Leaves caress your face as they gracefully fall in slithers of imperial topaz, Wind howling in your ears as it carries you off your feet in an exhilarating rush to catch a flyby stray hat. Smiles sent from house to house as giggly table cloth ghouls hunt on such a star-filled moonlight night to be greeted by delightful supplies of candy. University had its drawbacks, being far away from home during a wonderful time. Mother would always bake pies filled to the brim with pumpkin and endless amounts of spice but that was over. Rosalie was now alone really, her own little life away from everyone else. Sat in the park reading a book until someone new come along.
“Yeah, fall is amazing.” Squeaking out her answer, Rosalie felt extremely cosy next to this girl.
“I wasn’t talking about the season the second time.” Plastered on her face this stranger wore a cheeky smile while she quickly tucked Rosalie’s loose hair that kept on blocking her amber plains of eyes.
“Hi, I’m Flora. Want to grab a coffee?” Autumn gave another present, disguised as an Angel on earth.
“Sure. I would love to.”
