Pilot Overview: Marcus moves back to his hometown, La Conner, Washington, from Baltimore. The majority of the first part is Sarah and Marcus simply exchanging conversation about parapsychology and adding detail to their characters. Sarah receives a call from a friend that owns a hotel in Port Townsend, Washington. The friend has also called in another parapsychologist, which seems to strike a nerve with Sarah, the more cynical of the two siblings. They still agree to investigate, and head to Port Townsend. The episode picks up with Marcus talking with the psychic also hired to investigate the hotel, Gordon Wolfe. Wolfe seems polite, but becomes flustered when Sarah arrives. Sarah recognizes him and is incredibly cold towards him, but when Marcus asks about it, she brushes off the question. She instead begins asking questions to the hotel owner. After some strange events are described, Sarah and Marcus agree to stay at the hotel for a few nights in order to thoroughly investigate the occurrences. Sarah seems incredibly sceptical while Marcus tries to convince her to keep an open mind. They argue, but Sarah eventually apologizes for being too critical and they set off to investigate the hotel. Marcus and Sarah explore the hotel for a while and note an odd smell and a door that’s been sealed up and painted over. They decide to retire for the night and go back to their separate rooms, but Sarah sneaks out to investigate more.
