I woke up, sweat dripping down my face. My heart was beating fast, and the hairs on my arms and legs stood straight up. What the hell was that? My nightmare, if you could call it that, wasn't even scary. It was just a pair of yellow eyes looking at me.
I shook off the eerie feel that made my spine tingle and got out of bed. School wouldn't start for another couple hours but I doubt I could go back to sleep. I decided to get ready, as I feel as if that's the only thing I could do.
I grabbed an apple from the kitchen and called out to my grandma. "Bye Abuela! I'll see you after school! Love you!" I yelled.
"Bye chico! Have a good first day! I'll have your meds by this afternoon!" My mom's side of the family is from Spain so we speak Spanish. Well, I spoke a little.592Please respect copyright.PENANAZu4wX7qYSy
I left the house and headed towards school. I lived in the neighborhood a block away, so getting there was quick.
I immediately noticed the cliche cliques that everyone was in. You had the cheerleaders, the jocks (aka the airheads), the nerds, the emos, and so on. I...didn't exactly fit in to those groups.
You see, I was what you called "average". I stood at 5'8, had shaggy brown hair, brown eyes, some muscle, tanned skin and wore a large red hoodie with jeans, it was December after all, and boots.
So yeah, I was normal.
I walked past the groups and headed towards my locker. I looked behind me, but I saw no one. Hmm. I felt someone following me but it must've been paranoia.
I opened my locker, shoving the books in their. I looked over my schedule and took out the books that I needed from first to fourth. Then, I'll switch them after lunch. I placed my backpack in their as well.
Suddenly, my locker was slammed shut, making me jump. "Hey cutie, you new here?" I looked over at the culprit and grimaced. It was one of those "jocks" I explained earlier.
"Don't call me cutie." I shot back. I didn't feel like being played a prank on. But I'll admit, he was really hot. He stood over six feet, like most jocks do, had blonde hair that was tamed down and blue eyes like the ocean. He had a lot of muscle, obviously, and a charming smile.
"Why not? It's true. Also, you never answered my question." The bell rang and I left, going to my first class. I was already gonna be late.
"Wait!" He called and caught up to me. "Don't be rude. I was being polite." I rolled my eyes, and sighed. "Yes, I am new here." I said. I looked at the door in front of me and looked at my schedule. I was at the right classroom.
"Oh sweet! We have the same class." I sighed again. Of course we did. I entered, the big goof following behind me, and the teacher snapped her head at me.
"Boys, why are you late?" She asked. I was about to explain when I was cut off.
"Sorry Mrs. G, he's new and was lost so I showed him to class." The boy explained. My fist tightened. I didn't need someone explaining something for me.
"Okay, that's fine. Take your seat Dexter. And you, new kid, introduce yourself." She said, getting right to the point. The boy, Dexter, sat down. I took in a breath. I was never good at introductions. I always stuttered a lot.
"I-um, my name is Blue Myers. I'm 16, and I'm from New York. I like soccer and reading." I said. Blue wasn't my real name, it was my middle name, but my real name was embarrassing. Only Nana knows what it is.
"Thank you Blue, you may now sit." The teacher said. Her name was Mrs. Gale according to the schedule.
I sat in a seat up front and took out the book for this class. I had to catch up with what we're learning, since what I learned in New York was different. Well, the same stuff but what we're being taught now was what we would have done later in New York. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I started taking notes when I heard a small "Pst." I ignored it, probably not towards me. Then I heard it again. And again. Until, I heard my name being called. "Blue." The voice whispered. I ignored it still. It kept calling me until I snapped.
I looked back and yelled, "WHAT?" Everyone snapped their heads at me, including the teacher, who looked pissed.
"Blue! What in the world is wrong with you! Detention this afternoon, my room you hear?" I opened my mouth but was shushed by her. I laid my head down on the desk and groaned. Fuck my life.
After class, I rushed out of the classroom, too pissed to hear my name being called once again. Then a hand grabbed my wrist and I was met with those stupid eyes once more. It was Dexter.
"Blue, I like that name. It fits you." My eye twitched. "That..that was what you wanted to say!? You got me in trouble..just to tell me you liked my name! Unbelievable." I turned away and walked fast, towards my next period.
He didn't follow this time.
Fast forward to lunch where I had nowhere to sit. I sighed, holding the lunch Nana packed for me the day before. It was nothing special, just a ham sandwich, an apple, and a kool-aid pouch. Yes, a kool-aid pouch. Don't judge me!
I was about to go sit outside on a bench when my name was called for like the fifth time today. It was Dexter, again. I looked at him where he was calling me over. I sighed. It was either, sit with obnoxious kid or sit by myself like a loser.
I chose being a loser.
Well, I wanted to until his arm grabbed my hoodie. I almost dropped my lunchbox when he steadied me. He frowned. "Hey, come sit with me and my friends." He said.
I glared. "You got me in trouble on my first day. Give me one good reason why I should." He shrugged. He frowned more. "Okay, you don't have to. But we'll be disappointed." He started to walk away when I did something crazy.
"Fine. I'll sit with you. But you better not be obnoxious." I said. He turned and smiled widely. I followed his to the table where him and his friends sat and took a seat next to him.
I felt uncomfortable with all the eyes that were on me. "Guys, this is Blue. Blue, these are my friends. The one with a scar near his eye is Lance. The girl with blue streaks is my little sister, Ava. The guy who smiles all the time is Jacob. And lastly, the tall dude who's always quiet is Gabe."
As he introduced everyone, they all waved at me except for Gabe. He just sat there, looking away. I looked at him and we made eye contact, but for some reason, his aura made me look away quickly.
Everyone talked, except Gabe and I. I just sat there and ate lunch. Until my name was called.
"Hey Blue. You're new here. Why did you move?" Ava asked. I shrugged. "Uhm..Family issues." I said. I wasn't about to tell a stranger my whole life story. She nodded and tried making small conversation with me.
Key word: Tried.
My answers were short and simple. She seemed to give up on trying to get me to open up and started talking to Jacob. I finished up my lunch and just sat there, thinking. Why was Dexter so insistent on being near me? Most people would have stopped by now by my attitude but he just kept pushing.592Please respect copyright.PENANAjuVUjGWGeV
I almost liked it. Almost. If he wasn't so annoying, then I would talk to him. I keep noticing how his eyes flicker towards me ever so often and that alone kind of creeps me out.
After lunch, nothing as weird really happened. Classes went by without interruptions, aka Dexter. And Detention was...quiet. The school called Abuela, and when I got home, she was less than impressed with me.
"But Abuela! This kid just kept calling my name, so I shouted at him. It's not my fault." I whined. She shook her head. "Chico, you need to learn how to ignore." I scoffed. "I did, trust me, but he was so annoying. You'd understand if you were there."
"Niñito, I don't care, you still got in trouble. This is a warning." She said, calling me by the nickname she uses. It meant little boy, and she knows I hated it.
"Fine Abuela, if you say so." I took the meds from her and ran upstairs to my room. I was exhausted. I put the meds on the counter and laid my head down on my bed, curling up in my blankets. Screw dinner, screw taking off my clothes, I just wanted sleep.
And that's what I got.
