As she stopped to catch her breath, she looked behind her with a gasp, her eyes wide with terror.
A hefty mass of fur slammed her to the ground, blades of grass cutting at the soft exposed skin of her face and arms as she struggled beneath it. The beast’s massive paws pushed against her shoulders, pinning her to the ground as its hot tongue scrubbed against her face, the sweet flavor of her strawberry lotion intoxicating to the colossal creature. It licked eagerly at her face despite her strains, ignoring her flailing arms.
At the feel of the behemoth’s warm, wet tongue, the girl raised her palms to protect her vulnerable face, her mouth wide open to its sloppy kisses. She hollered for it to get off, laughing at the hungry fervor of the massive mound of fluff.
“Rex! Rex, get off of her!”
At the sound of his master’s call, the slobbering dog climbed off the gaggling girl and sat in a panting heap, allowing her the freedom he had unexpectedly stolen. She wiped the stickiness from her face with her nylon shirt as she sat up, her smile wider than the pacific ocean.
“I’m so sorry about that, Miss. He’s usually not like this.” The owner of the endless furry creature held out a hand for the woman who had been pounced to the ground.
She shook her head, her vision spinning slightly, as she looked up to her savior.
Crystal clear eyes gazed back at her from beneath thick brown brows. His hair was a tussled chocolate with perfect strips of burnt caramel that would make Narcissus look up from his own reflection in awe. His faultless visage could have been the envy of all angels, and Michelangelo would have modeled David after his flawless stature. The man removed his ear buds, taking the outstretched hands of the young girl and helping her to her feet, never once breaking eye contact with her, his jaw hanging on a hinge.
Her chest burst into butterflies at his breath taking smile, and she ran her fingers through the strands of her silky hair in an attempt to hide her growing blush. Her eyes ogled the soft dimples in his beaming cheeks, and the subtle stubble of his chin neatly groomed by a skillful eye.
As smile slowly grew across his russet skin, entrancing the young woman in its flawless perfection, she knew without a single doubt in her mind that she had found him.
She had finally found the man she was going to murder.
