CADAVER, NEVADA

Years past, at the time of cowboys and Indians, a fellow named Billy Blaze came across an area of Nevada, that was constantly covered in a smell so terrible the area was called Cadaver.
You see, Billy was the son of a mortician and had spent his childhood surrounded by that smell, it was no big deal to him. When he asked about Cadaver to people in the nearby village, they told him, no one had ever bothered to find out what the source of the smell was…
Lover of adventures, Billy went back to Cadaver that same day.
The area was completely deserted other than a large mountain. They called it Mount Cadaver.
Billy went there and found a cave, with an entrance not taller than 7 feet.
The cave intrigued him. No ray of light went in, even when the sun was shining up in the sky pointing at the cave, it seemed, the sunlight was too scared to enter. Why didn’t Billy enter the cave alone? No one knows till this day...
We know for sure that Billy ran back to town and spoke about this cave to the people. They were as intrigued as he was.
‘Take us there! Take us there!’
A handful of men followed Billy back but, as soon as they inhaled the air of Cadaver, they backed off, some puked.
Billy didn’t give up. The next months were spent looking for someone who’d sponsor his excursion. A man called Austin Boone sent him a letter one day.
“Dear Mr Blaze,
I am intrigued by the place you described and would very much like to lend a hand as much as you require for an excursion inside the cave, at one condition...
Anything you find inside the cave is my property.”
Just a month after, Billy stood in front of the cave. Two men from out of state had volunteered to join, they too didn’t mind the smell, which, Billy noticed, would get stronger when you were close to the cave.
News outlets at the time had sent their photographers to take black and white pictures of the men. Most of them wore multiple bandanas around their noses and mouths, in hopes, it would keep the stench away - it didn’t work.
Billy and the two men were dressed formally, with black suits and tall hats.
They entered the cave with smiles. Neither of them was ever seen alive again.
In fact, no one remembered them at all.
Mr Boone found it strange that he couldn’t remember whom he had given money to for an expedition in the cave.
He did remember that the cave was a place of intrigue and mystery, so he turned Cadaver into a tourist attraction. For a fee, men and women could enter the cave and find out the source of the smell.
Slowly a little town developed around the tourist attraction.
Although, owners of the shops, bars and amenities which sprouted in town saw the money come in, but they never remembered the faces or the names of those who handed them the money.
It seemed as though they made their livelihoods from ghosts...
